Went on spa weekend, then found out pregnant

Hi all- new to this board as found out I was pregnant only day before yesterday! It was our first wedding anniversary at the weekend and we went on a spa weekend (we had been TTC for about 8 months and was being overly cautious and this month I thought I'm not going to continue to put my life on hold as I have found the TTC process v difficult and mentally very draining). So unbeknown to me at the time, I would have been pregnant at the weekend. Reason for my concern is that we went in the hot tub (maybe 20 mins max) and I also went into the sauna twice and steam room once (but really wasn't in those rooms very long, maybe 5 mins max each time), also just had a normal massage which I assume is fine (they didn't massage my abdomen as I said I didn't want that). Im apparently 4 weeks + 4 days. Is the hot tub/sauna/steam cause for concern? Thanks v much in advance for any advice.

I found out I was pregnant at 10 weeks and didn’t realise how far along I was til I had a scan.

When I was 9 weeks, I had a tooth out with sedation and baby is fine.

Different to your situation but nevertheless something you aren’t meant to do!

Honestly I wouldn't worry. I had a friend who discovered her pregnancy months along. She'd be partying at music festivals and was mortified. Baby absolutely fine.

Congratulations! X

Not at all, no need to worry.

Ah thanks all so much for the responses. Feel much more relieved! Still can't quite believe it tbh, feeling on cloud nine! Thank you again x

I'm sure your baby will be fine. Christmas eve 2016 i was at a party and very vey drunkBlush on the 28th i found out i was pregnant! No damage done to baby

I think (although I might be wrong) that a lot of the precautions over steam / sauna / spa are to do with risks to you rather than baby.

I wouldnt worry too much at this early stage

MummySparkle · 16/08/2018 08:36

And congratulations! Grin

Congratulations! Please don't worry...I had a good few drinks in the first few weeks before I knew...we all beat ourselves up and feel guilty but it will be fine!

You’ll be fine - the hot tub/sauna advice is particularly related to neural tube development (the brain and spinal cord) so you’re too early on for it to have caused any problems. Congratulations.

Phew- thank you so much ladies, really do appreciate it. Fingers crossed for a healthy and happy pregnancy 🤞x

I read up a lot on this early on. From what I read it could potentially (only potentially)be a risk around the time the neural tube is closing which happens around week 6. I doubt the exposure you had would have done anything anyway (there are soooo many women who are in this situation and have healthy babies) but especially not for you because you are so early. Also, I was interested to learn that in Finland...women continue to use saunas throughout their pregnancies and don't give it a second thought (I have a friend from Finland living in the UK who built one in her house!). Please try not to worry xx

Thanks so much @Hopehope20, so very helpful. Really do hope everything will be okay... Thank you again x
