Bad cramps and bloody show after sweep

Hi,

Just hoping to hear some stories of people's experiences after having a cervical sweep please.... First baby and it's all so confusing!

I am 40+6, had my first membrane sweep today about 3pm. Started having mild cramps about 5pm which have become stronger throughout the evening, not regular exactly but every 5 to 8 min. Pretty uncomfortable but I'm trying not to describe them as painful because I know how much worse things are going to get!
Also just had my show at about midnight.

Did anyone have a similar experience after a sweep and what happened next? Did the cramps turn into contractions and proper labour or just fade away?

Thanks for any shared experiences!

It did for me with my second. I had a sweep after I begged for a weekend's grace before induction. He was born about fourteen hours later.

I went for a long walk and kept mobile. Fingers crossed. That was nine years and one day ago :)

Sounds like you have lift off!! How exciting. Get your OH to gather up your hospital bags, fuel in the car and ring the Midwife/labour ward. Have you got towels or a waterproof sheet to put under you when travelling to the hospital? The pains are contractions. They can be strong from the start. I had DC2 about 9 hours after my show. My waters never broke so mw had to rupture them. Good luck.

Thanks HotTeaCup... Oh really?! God... Husband is fast asleep Hmm I just called the midwife who just said to call back if they get to be two minutes apart or if my waters break. Fingers crossed this is it!!

Sweeps didn’t work at all for me but sounds like you’re in early labour! Good luck Smile
