Dear Mum's and Mum's to be,
I am 21 weeks pregnant and have had to have 3 lots of antibiotics for urine infections. They are really getting me down and stopping me from relaxing and enjoying the pregnancy. I pushed to see the obstetric team and have been advised they may want to start a daily antibiotic called cefalexin but this won't necessarily stop any new UTI but just reduce chances of it. Am also waiting for a scan. I think I am probably not emptying my bladder fully - besides drinking lots and sitting forwards on loo I don't know how else to help empty. Any experiences with daily antibiotics for UTI in pregnancy? Anyone had extra tests except kidney scans? Any tips for helping? Thank you! From one anxious me, xxx

Hi, I had constant urine infections with my first baby. I have no idea why. They were going to scan my kidneys at one point but the appointment came through late and the problem resolved once he was born.

I have no idea what caused it.

I never got a urine infection with DS2, and now I'm 21 weeks with DS3 and no infections here either.

I wouldn't know how to prevent it.
Apparently cranberry tablets are good.

Did they out you on a daily antibiotics for the pregnancy or just treated each infection seperately? X

The treated each infection separately. I think I probably had about 8 in total.
There was never any mention of daily antibiotics.
Conversely, my sons head was pressing down very hard for most of my pregnancy and very engaged early on (at 30something weeks) and I would get a very strong intense feeling to wee, to the point where I couldn't even sit down but then wouldn't be able to see at all. Sometimes that was because I had a UTI, but sometimes it was his head trapping something.
I personally think it was that that caused the infections.

Thanks for sharing - it's so stressful when your going through these things - I am going to see what they say after scan but I think baby is pressing on my bladder too as sometimes it's hard to empty fully - thanks again for sharing really appreciate it! Xx

Ive been on 3 different antibiotics for this double kidney infection which I’ve had for the last 5 weeks and I’m on antibiotics til 36 weeks when I’m being induced. My ob took bloods to test my kidney function as I’m borderline kidney failure since age 16

Not as many as you, just three during pregnancy. I had other bladder issues and was told when I went for a wee to stand up when I'd finished, wiggle myself around a bit to adjust position and then sit and try to go again. Used to then manage to wee a little more each time.
