30 weeks and bump shrunk

Hi,

I am a first time mummy and I am 30 + 3 weeks and my bump seems to have shrunk quite significantly.. is this normal??

I have a midwife appointment tomorrow but just wanted to get a heads up prior to seeing her..

Also, I have had to take the last 2 days off work due to being in pain, sickness and really tired - is this also normal for someone in the third trimester?

TIA for any replies Smile

Could you have lost weight/fluid due to sickness? What kind of pain? Not all pain is normal, discomfort yes, tired yes, sickness maybe, but pain needs checking.

Annalogy · 13/08/2018 18:29

I've never heard of that happening, but I'd definitely call the triage if you're worried. Don't wait until tomorrow, IME Thanks

Bobbielee91 · 13/08/2018 18:49

I have potentially lost weight as we have just moved House and I genuinely have not stopped for 5 days - wanted to get everything sorted before I was due back in Work.

The pain is like a pulling pain on my stomach, I wondered if it could be round ligament pain or just from the weight of the baby?

I really hate overreacting so always put off calling the maternity unit 😬. My family think that the baby has moved lower which has caused the bump to appear smaller.

Babies might stop growing, but they don't shrink. Either you have lost body fat or (more likely) baby has shifted position. How is movement? If fine I'd just chat with midwife, she will be checking your fundal height anyway.

Worieddd · 13/08/2018 19:00

How is movement?

Bobbielee91 · 13/08/2018 19:08

Because I have been so busy, I have not paid too much attention to movement until bed time. I have taken it easy today and felt him kicking and moving around but not as much as usual..

If you have felt less movement you should go in and get checked

Condragulations · 13/08/2018 19:18

I’d 100% not wait for your usual appointment for this. They’re ALWAYS happy to check you and baby over and find that everyone is doing well. The alternative is unthinkable. You won’t be a bother at all, please get checked out.

strawberrypenguin · 13/08/2018 19:20

Go get checked out. You're worried so I'd go with your instincts. They'd much rather see you than not.

KitchenDancefloor · 13/08/2018 19:44

As other PPs have said, trust your instincts and get RL medical advice... BUT
My DS scared the life out of us during the 3rd semester by 'shrinking'. I had a couple of extra scans. He was fine but I didn't have as much fluid as I should. The pregnancy, birth and newborn days were all textbook though. He was a perfectly healthy weight too.
I hope that reassures you a little. All the best with the rest of your pregnancy Thanks

Worieddd · 13/08/2018 20:10

Great that you’re feeling movements! I would however get checked out to be on the safe side

LostMyBaubles · 13/08/2018 21:02

Another to say please get checked
Could just be baby has moved position but better safe than sorry

Bobbielee91 · 13/08/2018 21:18

He has started moving again now! I have also started to feel a bit perkier too..

My partner kept saying that perhaps me being ill had made the baby not feel himself too - maybe he was right..

I’m feeling happier now I can feel little one moving again Grin

My bump significantly shrank about a week before I went into labour, turns out my waters had been leaking and I just hadnt clicked Blush
By the time I went into labour there was barely any left.

Best get checked I think

Havetothink · 13/08/2018 21:40

You've overdone it for 5 days moving house in a rush followed by pain and sickness, get your midwife to check you and then if all is ok you should probably rest. Sounds potentially like you've made yourself ill, even if baby is fine you should take the hint and slow down.

Bobbielee91 · 14/08/2018 14:26

We have seen the midwife and the baby’s heartbeat etc was fine. He has moved position - he’s gone breach again!

Although I feel as if my bump has shrunk, the baby has actually grown significantly and we have now got an extra scan booked for 3 days time.

Yikes!!

Oh I’m so pleased you got checked out and you’ve got a healthy baby in there! Hope the baby turns again for you Smile

Condragulations · 15/08/2018 19:47

Just seen you’re 30 weeks so there’s still plenty of time to turn Smile
