Unexpected pregnancies! Has anybody experienced a surprise?

Hi all, I'm just wondering if anyone has ever experienced a total surprise pregnancy? My husband and I aren't trying but we aren't exactly careful and just use the withdrawal technique. It's always taken us quite a lot of "practice" as it were to conceive though so although it might sound daft, i would be shocked to conceive. Im not sure I could go down that road of actively trying again, but a surprise might be lovely :-) thank you

Surprises do happen.... we have a Rory 😍 and his sister is only 12 months younger than him.... surprise!!!!😂😱

Rorymum · 12/08/2018 14:08

Haha! Congratulations minidoofa! Thank you for replying. I'd started to think all babies were difficult to conceive! X

Yes, DD2 was a surprise. DD1 took 13 months to conceive, then DD2 was conceived 11 months after she was born while I was on the mini pill! We’d only had sex once that month too...

annlee3817 · 12/08/2018 15:30

Yes DD was a total surprise, condom split, but we genuinely thought we'd be fine, wouldn't change it for the world though :)

KellyBailey · 12/08/2018 15:33

Well if you're not using contraception a pregnancy shouldn't really be a "surprise" OP, sounds like you'd be happy with it if it happened though so good luck.

Grazek · 12/08/2018 15:35

Yes,I’m currently 35 weeks with our little surprise :)
I was on the pill as well, but had to switch to new one as old one was discontinued, I got pregnant shortly after switching pills, not the best advert for the new one

dementedma · 12/08/2018 15:36

Yup. Dd1 was 12 and Dd2 was 9 when surprise DS appeared. I was 38 and it seriously wasn't part of the plan!

NikxLx · 12/08/2018 15:38

Yep. Our first pregnancy came as a total surprise. I have PCOS and a few months before was told my chances were slim to none until I hit mid thirties (I'm 27).

Needless to say when I took the first test and it said 3+ weeks I was totally surprised and thought the test was wrong only to do another with the same results.
We couldn't be happier that this has happened but now have lots of geeking up to do lol. Currently 10 weeks 🤩

elliejjtiny · 12/08/2018 15:43

2 mini pill surprises here then dh got the snip

CobaltRose · 12/08/2018 15:48

I fell pregnant on the implant but sadly miscarried. I'm now 10 weeks pregnant with a planned baby Grin

Kool4katz · 12/08/2018 15:50

I didn't do a test for 12 weeks because I thought I was going through the menopause. First baby, early forties.

KitKatCHA · 12/08/2018 15:54

DC3 was a total surprise, I had lots of fertility treatments to conceive DC1&2 and was always told I wouldn't conceive naturally. I was convinced the nausea was a side effect from taking iron tablets but took a pg test to rule it out before seeing the Dr to ask for a different kind. I nearly keeled over with shock when it came back positive!

NotAnotherHeffalump · 12/08/2018 15:54

First baby was a total surprise. Came at a very difficult time of my life, and I was very scared. He is now 9, and the best thing that ever happened to me Grin.

Baby160P · 12/08/2018 16:11

12+1 with a mini pill surprise. ❤️

Starting to this the mini pill is just a sweet from the amount of us lol

chloechloe · 12/08/2018 21:34

DD1 and DD2 are both IVF babies due to make and female factor infertility. Currently expecting No. 3 conceived the first month after stopping BFing, when we only had sex twice Grin

IchFliegeNach · 13/08/2018 00:46

6 years fertility treatment for DC1, currently pg with a very welcome surprise DC2!

Seniorschoolmum · 13/08/2018 01:06

They can happen. I was told by doc that I was “most unliely to have a family” a decade before I suddenly started feeling very tired, and went to my GP for a check up . Surpriise is putting it mildly. Smile

ParkheadParadise · 13/08/2018 01:13

Both of mine were surprises
DD1 was a teenage suprise
Dd2 came along 23YEARS later. I went to the doctors with what I thought was a kidney infection. To find out I was 5mths pregnant 😯.

kettleonplease · 13/08/2018 04:44

It doesn't sound like it would be a surprise if you did conceive?! Good luck :)

Mhcb · 13/08/2018 09:16

I am 22 weeks pregnant with our surprise. I was on the pill too but seems it was just meant to be. We both can't wait for his arrival now

Grumpos · 13/08/2018 09:52

Yes, 7 years and 2 long term relationships of actively trying to get pregnant (not the whole time of course but a significant proportion over the years, including investigations and medication).....
Met a guy online, hit if off but we messed around most of the year being causal / on & off for one reason or another.
Decided to make a proper go of it together and pregnant the first month without actively avoiding.
38 weeks and stupidly happy

emoji · 13/08/2018 10:25

Yes. DD took many years, a lot of heartache, a lot of money, time, and 2 rounds of IVF to conceive.
5.5 months after she was born I found out I was pregnant naturally!

Pinkvoid · 13/08/2018 11:37

My DC3 was the result of a pill failure (whilst I was BFing and we very rarely even had sex...) Shocked isn’t even the word. I wasn’t sure I could go through with it at first as we already had a 20 month old and 6 month old but we did and she is great, turned six on Saturday in fact.

Anm4 · 13/08/2018 12:28

Yes but suprises are lovely, DC2 was conceived on the injection. DC1 and DC3 were planned, & DC4 currently 30+6 weeks pregnant with was a BIG but lovely suprise, found out at 10 weeks. I have PCOS had only had 7 periods in 2 years prior to falling pregnant and we were using protection which failed. I look at it as they were meant to be! X

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 13/08/2018 12:39

Ds was a surprise. We had a contraceptive failure but given it was only one accident and I'd had a couple of mid-cycle scans that had suggested I wasn't ovulating and we were sort of thinking we might try ttc in the next few years... Grin
