IBS flare up, help!

I'm 19 weeks pregnant and having the worst IBS flare up of my life. I haven't had a break from the pain and spasms in about a week and I've got diarrhoea, acid reflux, nausea, wind etc. I've been trying to manage with over the counter 'pregnancy safe' stuff like paracetamol, gaviscon, wind-eeze and prochlorperazine which I have on prescription for nausea.

The flare up now seems to have got completely out of control and nothing is touching it, I have Mebeverine which I was prescribed pre pregnancy but I don't know if it's safe. I can't get a doctors appointment till Thursday and don't really know how I'll cope until then! I've looked up online but it's mixed bag of websites saying absolutely no way can you take it, and others saying there's no safety data but if the benefits outweigh the risk then you can.

Anyone taken it during pregnancy? Or any other tips for managing a flare up would be helpful too. Thank you

I get terrible IBS when pregnant and unfortunately there's very little you can take. Ask a pharmacist- they'll be able to look up the drug table and advise you better than a GP in many cases (in the hospital drs call the pharmacists for advice on drug use and dosage!).

Let me know what you found to help. I'm having a flare up now and I'm so done!!

Sorry you are suffering.

I had lifelong IBS (10x to the loo a day usually!) and the only times that I got any respite from it was when I was pregnant.

?Talk to GP about safety of treatments.

I have ulcerative colitis and an ileostomy and when I was having a flare up, I was allowed to take buscopan whilst pregnant. I know how you feel it’s awful 😩

Ring a pharmacy and ask to speak to a pharmacist about whether you can take mebeverine.

Thanks all, managed to get a prescription for Colpermin today and a consultant appointment on Friday to discuss other options. Can keep up the paracetamol and go onto codeine if needed. Feel for everyone else having problems too, it's absolute agony! Thought I'd hit my second trimester stride and be glowing by now 😩

Go gluten free. That resolved my ibs and reflux

I got a terrible bout of IBS when pregnant and was given a prescription of I think mebevorine for it which really helped thank goodness. I was told to take this rather than buscopan which I shouldn’t take so conflicting advice from above poster, sorry, although this was 7 years ago so may have changed.
