Bump in lower left abdomen. Negative pregnancy test *picture*

Hi, I have had a lump in my lower left abdomen for over a week now, my GP referred me for a scan as she is unsure what it could be (didn't do any tests on the day just felt and said to send me for a scan) my scan isn't for another 5 weeks! And I'm worried about what it could be. I have a 19 month DS and had seperation of my abdominal muscles after Pregnancy and have read quite a few things on here about it being a baby bump but to the side due to the previous seperation. The lump feels hard and can only be seen when I lie on my back! I have done a pregnancy test and it is negative. I am also on the pill and have recently had my 7 day break from that where I have come on my period, I am due to continue taking my pill Monday so took the pregnancy test encase it was positive as I wouldn't want to continue taking my pill if that was the case. We had a miscarriage before conceiving DS so I'm worried it's something like that again! The lower left side feels achy and sometimes a slight pain/twinge, I've been feeling drained and tired for a couple of months and occasionally nauseas. Does this seem like a baby bump or probably something else? Thanks in advance!

I'm no medical expert but that doesn't look like a baby bump. Could it be a hernia?

As above- im more inclined to say hernia as opposed to pregnancy.
Maybe ask your go to do a blood test to rule out pregnancy? X

Thankyou. I asked GP if it could be a hernia and she said it's too firm but couldn't say for sure what it could or couldn't be. And at the time I didn't even think about if I could be pregnant until I came across some posts on here that were similar but not so much of a ball / lump as I have! Thankyou for responding :)

Could be diastasis recti too.

@Celebelly I was all signed off from physio over a year ago for diastatis recti. Is it possible for it to re-seperate?

No idea! I'm no expert - I just have a friend who has suffered horribly with it and can't get it resolved. The GP definitely needs to follow up though, especially if you aren't feeling well with it.

@Celebelly oh Thankyou I will ask about it as they did say I had it quite bad and I was going physio almost twice as long as most people with it. Hope they can fix whatever is wrong as it's not fun being uncomfortable with a toddler running around lol

Sorry op I don't know but try not to stress about it at least you have the referral now. Easier said than done I know

If it's hard it could be an ovarian cyst possibly?
Or a very taught hernia popping through a small hole in the abdominal muscles?

It could well be a hernia. Pain and hardness could indicate that there is a loop of intestine stuck in it, so if it gets worse, get yourself seen as a matter of urgency. Go back to your GP and ask for a referral. Whatever it is, its clearly not something GP can sort out for you.

And don't wait 5 weeks!

Oh no I have had a referral by the doctor to the hospital for a scan to see what it is, I was just wondering what people think it is as the soonest I can be seen at hospital is 5 weeks time (well 4 weeks and 4 days!) I am going to contact my GP Monday to see if I can be seen sooner as I am now getting discomfort everyday instead of every now and then. I only came to here to set my mind at ease as to what it is as online either said pregnancy (normal or ectopic) or some sort of cancer. So coming on here and pretty much everyone saying it looks like a possible hernia is making me feel abit better about waiting almost 5 weeks for a scan. Thanks :)

If you are having discomfort from it don’t wait 5 weeks ask to be seen ASAP as hernias can become strangulated , it looks like fairly typical one to me .

Could it be a lipoma or a cyst?

Definitely ask gp to speed up the referral from routine to urgent if there's increased pain

Did the GP ask about your bowels and whether you have been constipated or have any other changes?

If your symptoms are increasing and your getting more uncomfortable/pain then i would go to a&e. They would probably do a scan for you there and then.

Its definitely not a pregnancy bump.

It's neither an accident or an emergency so a&e is not appropriate UNLESS the pain is severe. If it's just getting worse day by day, over time etc then a gp appointment or even ringing the out of hours gp service in you area is perfectly reasonable
Ring gp in the morning and ask for an urgent appointment
Explain you e been referred for a scan, 5 weeks away, pain getting more frequent and severe and you need to be reviewed by a gp that day in case it is a hernia that is strangulating!

Thankyou so much everyone! I will defiantly call my GP tomorrow encase it is a strangulated hernia. I would not go to A&E for a bit of discomfort but will defiantly contact the GP.
