Aperol Spritz

I don't really drink much in pregnancy but when I do, I always stick with beer or wine and avoid spirits. What's the deal with Aperol Spritz? I'm out for the day with my two friends and I know they will be drinking them and I really, really want one!

It's prosecco and aperol which is about the same level of alcohol as wine. So basically it's the same as a glass of wine. You could have one no problem unless you subscribe to the no alcohol at all thing

Aperol spritz is prosecco and aperol. Aperol is 11%... probably 1.5 units?

PerfectlyPosed · 08/08/2018 17:57

I wasn't sure what Aperol was but I think I thought it was stronger than 11%.

oh god, I've missed Aperol Spritzes so much!! I really crave them. (I promise I'm not a total lush) Unfortunately I'm 10 weeks with no plans to drink in the first trimester, but maybe it'll still be warm enough to enjoy one by the time I get into the 2nd...

If you want a drink with very little alcohol, Aperol and soda is a nice flavour. Shot of Aperol (11%) plus soda. Not alcohol free, but weaker than a wine spritzer, if you see what I mean.

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot · 08/08/2018 19:24

You could reduce the amount of Aperol and prosecco, and increase the soda if you want to bring it down to similar alcohol units as a glass of wine.

@ladycarlotta I didn't drink in the first trimester either but I'm now 28 weeks and have had hardly anything. Tomorrow is a treat day that has been booked for a long time so I'd really like to have a drink. It sounds like it'll be fine to have one so I will!

Thanks also for the tip about Aperol and soda, definitely sounds like it's worth a try.

Apérol with tonic or with soda is lovely. 50ml of Apérol is less than one unit of alchol and of course you have to make your own judgment but I felt comfortable having this occasionally in pregnancy. If you like the bitter flavour of Apérol then a few drops of angostura bitters in tonic are delicious and have negligible alcohol.

@PerfectlyPosed enjoy it! You definitely don't need to do any justifying, I fully plan to have a drink or two after 12 weeks. I'm just jealous. Having a first trimester during a HEATWAVE has been rubbish for all sorts of reasons, but I love the summer booze, and had designs on a summer full of white port and tonic. Next year, eh?

Goatlady5812 · 08/08/2018 21:51

I’m with you all- I plan to have a v low alcohol drop of wine with lots of lemonade after my 12 week scan- which is actually at 13 weeks and 3 days!!! Typical!!! Xxxx

Well I had my Aperol Spritz at lunchtime today and it was bloody lovely. Well worth the wait!
