Heeeeeeeelp. I've gone from one extreme to the other...

I'm 37 weeks pregnant, and for months I've been constipated and feeling bunged up. However, over the past three days my bowels have changed their tune and have been going wild. Sorry for the tmi but I imagine you'd expect it from the title. It's not even diaorhhea; it's loads of stomach pain, extreme (and explosive) gas, and soft stools that are a cross between the runs and normal poos.

I've also been absolutely starving - even waking up during the night to eat Blush. What's happening to me? Is this normal? Is there something I can do to soothe my sore tummy and bum?

I almost feel like I could have wrote this post when I was 37 weeks, I could stop shitting and every time I stopped I needed another one an hour later, I even phoned the MW and had to ask if it was normal as I thought there was something wrong 😂 but I can assure you it's normal 😂😂

WHAT91 · 08/08/2018 14:47

Oh man, how long does this go on for? I have plans, people to see and places to go but at the moment just want to be near a toilet! 😂😭

This is common near the end, I know myself and a few other woman who this happened too. Thankfully is cleared up before labour started.

Wingbing · 08/08/2018 14:57

This happened to me the day before I went into labour. Good luck Smile

CobaltRose · 08/08/2018 15:11

Sounds like you may go into labour soon!

WHAT91 · 08/08/2018 15:13

But I don't really have any other symptoms yet?

OP posts:
Wingbing · 08/08/2018 15:55

Neither did I. Just spent the whole day emptying my bowels. First twinge was about 36 hours later

Wingbing · 08/08/2018 16:06

Or you could just have a stomach upset!

WHAT91 · 08/08/2018 16:59

It's mostly just gas now which is rare for me Sad

I had this too, just before DD was born and it didn't stop until I had her! Xx

RandomMess · 08/08/2018 17:57

Shift in hormones ready to give birth!

MaverickSnoopy · 08/08/2018 18:56

I had this about an hour after my waters broke. It went on for about 20 mins and then labour stared. So not quite the same but it's basically nature's way of clearing you out.

GeorgeTheHippo · 08/08/2018 19:00

Yup. Might not be long now.

Annalogy · 08/08/2018 19:35

Yeah, I agree with PPs. I had the same a few days before I went into labour.

I wouldn't worry, just keep hydrated Smile

I’m 37 weeks pregnant today and for the past 3 days I’ve had the shits too :/ I’ve also had severe back pain and under bump pain that comes and goes. I told my midwife today and she said it’s normal and it’s my body preparing for labour.
I don’t feel so worried about it but the pain can sometimes be so painful that it would stop me from doing whatever I’m doing and just bend over to brace it. The pain comes in waves and goes when I’m asleep but comes back during the day. Towards the end of the day it feels like normal lower back pain hence why I don’t think it’s early labour. I Finish work on Friday which is good so hoping to be able to cope with it until I can finally relax!

Annalogy · 08/08/2018 22:20

@Gem173 oh wow! Doesn't sound like labour will be too far off for you now.

Make sure your hospital bag is packed lol Smile

Gem173 · 09/08/2018 05:54

@Annalogy what were your first signs of labour?

Annalogy · 09/08/2018 06:50

Hi @Gem173 Smile

Needing to go to the loo a lot was one, but I only thought about that in hindsight, really.

It was mainly that my Braxton Hicks we're becoming more frequent and starting to become painful. I started feeling that on the Saturday at 8pm and she was born on the Monday at 2am. Fun and games haha Smile

Gem173 · 09/08/2018 07:28

@Annalogy wow that is quick! Starting sat and giving birth on Monday!
My pains have been daily since Monday and I think it’s because baby has dropped (he’s 3 fifths engaged) which could be why my back hurts!

Annalogy · 09/08/2018 07:58

@Gem173 the midwife said that baby was 3/5ths at my 38 week appointment and I didn't give birth until 40+6 😬

I couldn't even walk up the stairs properly after 38w, it was so painful. Although she was a fairly big baby at 8lb 7 and I'm 5'1 haha

Wishing you an easy labour Smile

Bowlofbabelfish · 09/08/2018 08:09

Ive been having this for almost a week. Still no contractions, never had a single Braxton-Hicks even!

I’d love to think it’s early labour but it can last a long time whatever it is. Good luck!

WHAT91 · 09/08/2018 11:31

My 'toileting' has subsided for now. Which is a relief as my bum was getting sore Blush. Maybe it was just a bug after all Sad

@Annalogy
Thankyou, I went to work this morning but my back and bladder is so painful. I’m now lying on the sofa in pain and crying. I want the pain to go away. But I know it won’t, I have to rest.

Annalogy · 09/08/2018 12:40

@Gem173 remember you can take paracetamol. I know it won't do much, but it might help a bit.

If you're in too much pain, do call the triage and see what they say Thanks
