To be sick in the middle of the night?

Hello ladies, I am 5 weeks pregnant today and I have just had the most awful night of sleep in the world. A cycle of getting up to pee, feeling sick, staying up an hour or so, going to bed, and waking up shortly thereafter to pee and feeling sick.... Sad

Does anyone experience nausea in the middle of the night? Might it be linked to prenatal vitamins before bed? Hmm

I had hideous vomiting in the middle of the night, day, morning Grin with all three pregnancies. Whoever called it morning sickness was so very wrong.

leas80 · 08/08/2018 07:04

I'm 9 weeks pregnant with my first and I'm exactly the same. Not slept a full night since finding out and last night was the first of being sick. All good signs I'm hoping! Smile

Yep all the way through. It's horrific, you have my sympathy

Thebluedog · 08/08/2018 07:05

My morning sickness consisted of being sick every hour and a bit. That included all through the night. I’d wake up, puke them back to sleep. Thankfully it only lasted 3 months

'morning' sickness the greatest lie of my pregnancy. Constantly Sick! Look after yourself, and if you get to stage you can't keep anything down especially fluids speak to midwife or Gp. There's a great hyperemesis support group on here

Monipop84 · 08/08/2018 07:16

@shakeyourcaboose do you think it could be a start of HG? I am 5 weeks today....

My nausea hasn't progressed to actual throwing up (dry heaving usually) but I feel I am on the cusp of vomiting every time I stand up (and that makes it difficult to fall back asleep). Ah work today is going to be fun.... 😞

Unfortuately that’s unlikely to be the vitamin, just (the horribly misnamed) morning sickness. It sucks, I know, but hopefully means your hormones are going in the right direction. With DC1 I was like this pretty much throughout the pregnancy with just breaks around 20 -23 weeks and from 38 weeks (sorry), with DC2 it eased off a lot around 12 week.

Try ice cold fizzy water - I found it helped a little. Good luck.

CobaltRose · 08/08/2018 08:26

I had the same. Often the nausea was so bad it would wake me up.

I'm now nine weeks, and whilst I still get the ocassional wave of nausea, it's vastly improved.

Millypad · 08/08/2018 08:41

Do you take pregnacare? If so I’d recommend switching to Seven Seas, my nausea halved the moment I did.

Stephisaur · 08/08/2018 08:42

I find eating helps. I had a stash of chocolate stars in the bedroom for the middle of the night when I felt sick!

Nutkins24 · 08/08/2018 08:43

Yea I had this with current pregnancy. I think after about 7 weeks it settled down to just being sick when I got up, very typical ‘morning sickness’. I wouldnt panic just yet.

IfYouDontImagineNothingHappens · 08/08/2018 08:58

I could unfortunately be the start of HG but it also may just be "morning" sickness too.

gothicsprout · 08/08/2018 09:17

I'm so pleased I've seen this, as have just started to have the same feeling at 5 weeks and thought it was weird (although sorry you're also feeling rubbish!).

I've cracked out a stash of little Swedish ginger biscuits for my bedside table to nibble on before I try and get out of bed, as they worked quite well for me last time. Very cold water as well, as someone else suggested.

SiolGhoraidh · 08/08/2018 12:34

Morning sickness should be renamed 'any time of day and possibly all night as well' sickness.

In my first trimester I tended to feel most ill in the evenings, and had really bad heartburn and occasional sickness in the middle of the night. Propping the bed up helped, as did making sure I had not eaten too late before bed. If I woke up feeling sick or was sick I'd have a polo to help settle my stomach.

I never did get the classic morning symptoms, and never developed HG.

Monipop84 · 08/08/2018 16:49

@Millypad: yes I did start taking Pregnacare after my BFP. I was taking normal Boots folic acid beforehand. The horrible nausea has just started last night though - so I am not sure Pregnacare it's the only cause, but it could be making things worse - those pills are huge and I am quite tiny! Hmm

I would take your vits in the morning. Could be the iron making you feel sick. If you already have plenty of vits and minerals, your body can kind of say nope and make you feel sick. If you take them with food, they’ll be more effectively absorbed, as well as being less harsh on your tummy

Sandstormbrewing · 08/08/2018 20:54

I don't have HG but for the first 10 weeks I felt so k every waking moment. Which included the times I woke to pee!

I'm now 14 weeks and only intermittently feel sick, and never when I wake in the night.
