Hypnobirthing

Hi all
I have been looking into hypnobirthing to try and keep myself calm during Labour. However the cost is really putting me off. I have seen that the positive birth company do an online/digital pack that is a lot cheaper.

  1. Has anybody done hypnobirthing and would recommend it?
  2. Would a digital pack work or would I have to do the classes?
  3. Has anybody had the pack from the positive birth company and would you recommend it?
  4. Has anybody used a similarly cheap alternative to this pack?

TIA

I just read the Marie Mongon book and it was amazing. It's all I needed. Didn't do any classes and felt calm throughout as practised the techniques learned in the book.

Is that book available on Amazon? I have also heard that there are some bits on YouTube too.

I did hypnobirthing but to be completely honest the best thing I took from it was the friendships I made with the other mums to be in the class. Everything went out the window during labour, although I did really try my best to do the breathing techniques. I didn’t find it very successful and a lot of the other mums in the class agreed.

Hated Marie Mongan. Did the course and had the CDs for my first. It was so skewed against interventions I felt left in the lurch as my labour progressed in that way. The course also ended with a weird Scientology style video which suggested that women shouldn’t make noise in labour and stay indoors for the first 6 weeks with baby...

Look at Maggie Howell effective birth preparation in Amazon. This really helped me feel prepared for anything second time around.

Ive bought the positive birth company online course as like you was out of course prices. I haven't given birth yet so can't say whether or not it actually works in labour but I really enjoyed the videos and thought there was some really useful and interesting stuff in there.

I’ve also downloaded the Positive Birth Company digital pack. I’ve not finished it yet, nor given birth but I am finding the videos helpful. I’m glad I’ve downloaded the videos rather than forking out the hundreds of £s the courses near me charge.

I used hypnobirthing and found it worked really well. I didn't do any readings or music etc (I found it all a bit cringe!) but I remembered why I was doing this, welcomed each contraction and felt in control the whole time.

I down loaded Maggie Howell on my phone and used that in the lead up. I found the relaxing and breathing techniques helped a lot.

I also recommend a tens machine. I had a very long painful induced labour. I was refused a lot of pain relief whilst on the induction ward (don't ask me why) but the tens machine was a life saver. I hired it from

Ooh good! I can't find on the website how much the digital pack costs - can I ask how much you paid?

OP, I did a course available through the local hospital. Does your area have any of those? It was a 4 week course and it was £50.

emelsie · 07/08/2018 21:36

I am also looking at the positive birth company digital pack , I think it's £35 , they also have some free videos on the YouTube channel if you want a little taster ,they are really helpful.

NotSoThinLizzy · 07/08/2018 21:51

I did a course and found it helpful but everything in the course was covered in the Katherine Graves book which is on Amazon and kindle. Had I known I probably wouldn't have gone to the course but just read the book! It's pretty good actually.
