Hi everyone.

I'm 9+2 and have been suffering with bad constipation pretty much throughout my pregnancy. Right now I haven't been for four days and I'm in pain!

I've already been drinking lots due to the hot weather, but it's clearly not enough!

Thanks Smile

Small meals/snacks with high fibre. Cut back on sugary foods. You can get some fibre supplements from the pharmacy that are safe to use. If you're in pain though it might be better to call the gp and see if they suggest something stronger?

Thanks! I've got my midwife appointment tomorrow so will ask her.

Unsulphered dried apricot

Make them into a compote with a drop of water and eat a spoonful or two with a spot of ice cream...

Loulabelle25 · 07/08/2018 21:27

Prune juice got me moving in the first trimester when I had awful constipation.

Another vote for the prune juice. Magical stuff.

CobaltRose · 07/08/2018 21:51

Thanks everyone. Prune juice it is!

Lactulose is heaven sent.

SallyStartsSinging · 07/08/2018 21:55

I went to the chemist and they gave me lactulose. It’s safe and sometimes you just need medicine. Well I did anyway x

shallen · 07/08/2018 22:02

Make sure you are drinking loads of water, I thought I was drinking a lot but really seem to have to drink twice as much as I used to to keep regular; as soon as I don't, I bung up again.
I'm on about 3 litres a day.

Synecdoche · 07/08/2018 22:04

Brisk walk and warm bath!

Sandstormbrewing · 07/08/2018 22:24

A warning on lactulose though, a very small minority of people explode without warning after taking it. NOT GOOD! Blush

girlandboy · 07/08/2018 22:27

I was once bunged up for nearly 2 weeks.

A large tin of prunes worked when all other remedies didn't, and that included some on prescription from the doctor.

There was about 25 prunes in the tin and I ate every single one, and drank the juice!

Mousefunky · 07/08/2018 23:40

I didn’t go for five days last week. DP made me eat two whole plates full of different fruits and sure as Hell I went five times that night Grin. Felt so much lighter afterwards.

mmmgoats · 07/08/2018 23:41

Prune juice all the way. Literally!
Just be near a toilet when you drink it!

BlueBug45 · 08/08/2018 05:55

As what @ivykaty44 stated dried apricots and other dried fruit work. Though you don't need to put them in a compote or anything fancy, just eat a couple of generous handfuls from a packet.

What oddly doesn't work is grain based high fibre foods. They make you more blocked.

Homemade lentil soup
Fresh orange juice with bits

Longdistance · 08/08/2018 06:02

Yy to a brisk walk and plenty of fluids. Should get things going.

cockneymama2018 · 08/08/2018 10:29

lactulose! and fruit and water

Minkies13 · 08/08/2018 12:13

I had tried everything throughout this pregnancy. I just discovered prune juice at 37 weeks. OMG I wish I had of tried this much sooner. Way better than lactulose, fybogel, glycerin, fruit etc

Do it! Prune juice all the way
