Late period but negative test result

Hi, my husband and I are trying to conceive baby number two. The day after my missed period I took a Clearblue early detection pregnancy test (which is supposed to be sensitive enough to get an accurate result even before a missed period). The test came back negative. I'm now 4 days late for my period and I have no idea what's going on.

Part of me wants to take another test and another part of me is too scared in case it is negative again. Should I wait and if so how long?

I want this so badly that I feel like I'm holding on to false hope, after all the test came back negative!

I'd love to hear any advice or last experiences any of you have to share! Thanks

It’s possible to get a negative result and be pregnant, especially so early.

I had a positive at home, but a negative at hospital when I went in for some bleeding at 4+4. The blood test confirmed it in the end.

Did you do first morning urine and all that?

@lambdroid Thank you for sharing your experience. Yes I did use first morning urine (about 7am) although I did go for a wee at about 3am too so perhaps that made a difference?

I’m not an expert, but would think it could have, especially so early on.

Maybe leave it a day or so and try again? If still no positive after a week, perhaps the GP for a blood test.

Good luck! The waiting part is surprisingly stressful, isn’t it?

@lambdroid The waiting definitely is stressful, I would just like an answer either way in stead of all of this uncertainty!

I will be sure to comment on here as soon I have a definitive answer! Grin

Late ovulation. Not only would it make your af late, but if you did get pregnant, you wouldn't get a positive until later. This is why so many women track ov. If you ov later than normal, af will be late by the same number of days. It's very common, especially with a change of any kind (heatwave?).

I was just going to say what physicskate said. If you weren’t tracking your ovulation then you don’t really know when to expect your period.

Your period is USUALLY 14 days (not always) after your ovulation day, so if you’ve ovulated, say, a week later than normal then your period wouldn’t be expected until a week later than normal.

These things happen unfortunately, particularly when TTC it seems!

I am currently 10 weeks and I kept having negative results on tests despit never being late usually! I finally got my first positive a week and 2 days after my period was due and I tried all of the early tests as well! Very frustrating and disheartening to keep seeing it but hang in there and fingers crossed!

Hi everyone, thank you all for your comments and support.

Just a quick update, I took another home pregnancy test this morning and it was positive! I'm so pleased!

Good luck to everyone else out there trying to conceive!
