Think I feel pregnant but is this what it feels like...? :(

Hi, Im so sorry for the long email but there's lots of parts to my question! I've spent the last few days glued to the endless forums on American sites which date back to 2003, desperately trying to find someone in exactly the same situation and realising that I already know that I just need to get a blood test and that I should just wait a bit longer so I guess writing here is because I really want to know what people who have been pregant really feel like (didnt mean that sentence to be so long )

Do you recognise any of this...??

I have irregular periods but I should be expecting my period about now or by now. I know this because I thought I had it last Wednesday but it turned out to be very very light bleeding which lasted for two days - perfectly matching descriptions of implantation bleeding.

My boyfriend and I use the withdrawal method and would like to have a baby - he always thinks that he withdraws in time but I know you can get pregnant this way - has anyone else?

Anyway on Monday of this week I started feeling a bit sick. Tuesday I was retching and feeling really bad, Wednesday even worse, really nauseaus but mainly in the evenings. Thursday feeling sick again, mainly in the evening. Today I feel ok but I still have that feeling in the back of my throat like something is stuck there. Then I rang NHS direct today because I sat up from my desk and felt really faint and my palms were really clammy and I felt so lightheaded but the sickness has faded. ive also had a headache on and off all week and I never get headaches.

Ive had mild cramping all week and today it just feels like loads of gas and like Im carrying a tummy of water around and the pains are a bit sharper. Ive got back ache and Ive had that on and off all week but it's got worse today.

I usually get really really sore boobs b4 by period but this time they just have shooting pains down the sides, as if it is really deep inside, but they arent particularly tender or anything.

I took a pg test on Tuesday and it was negative. A nurse took one yesterday and it was negative. I wonder if I am just ill - I'll try again with a test tomorrow when its the first wee of the day (nice).

sigh does anyone recognise any of this? Am I going mad? Any responses very gratefully received!! X

Sounds like flu TBH

Do your boobs have more prominent veins? This for me is one of the first indications (as well as the continual vomiting and just total exhaustion.

However, since your periods are irregular there is just as much of a chance that you could be pregnant but not enough to have tipped the pregnancy test to positive - yet. You would be better to wait three days and do one more test. That will be your definitive answer (if it is over ten days post ovulation.)

Have you been tested for PCOS btw?

hippmummy · 02/06/2007 07:15

Hi Millie - some of the symptoms sound like pregnancy symptoms but I would have thought that if you had an implantation bleed you should have had a positive pg test by now.

Slightly confused though - why are you still using withdrawal method if you are trying for a baby? It is possible to get pregnant that way, but obviously far more efficient if you don't!

Millie26 · 02/06/2007 12:02

Hello, thanks for replying! I did another test this morning and it was negative so I think Im probably just ill...

No boob differences apart from odd shooting pains. I havent been tested for PCOS but Ive got mild endometriosis and Ive had a laporoscopy a couple of times when I was 16 and 19 to get rid of the extra bits floating around me. Am 26 now but havent been back for a check up for ages as my periods havent been very painful - I proabably should do. The thing is my doctor told me that having a baby would probably sort me out and regulate my periods, the problem is getting pregnant in the first place! My best friend has got PCOS and she doesnt get periods at all except for when she is on the pill - I get one every 4-6 weeks probably.

The withdrawal method thing is silly. Have been with my bf for years and we do want a baby but he is studying as part of his job and doesnt qualify til nxt April. So we thought we'd jack in the condoms and leave it to fate but then start trying properly nearer the end of the year so that a baby wouldnt keep him up when he was studying. I know it can take ages to get pregnant though.

Anyway, I keep writing too much - it feels nice to 'talk'! Thanks for letting me know what you think, that's really nice of you. xx

PS - today am still feeling sick and so tired and achey and crampy. If I do turn out to be pg then Ill put a post on here. So many people on other forums never say what happens in the end!

Best of luck sweetie, If it was implantation that would tend to be from around 6 or 7 DPO (past ovulation) so that makes today at the least 10 DPO. That could easily be way too early for a positive test, some don't show till a couple of weeks after ovulation although many seem to be positive about 13 DPO. Keep testing, if nothing by say Thursday then it might be more unlikely you're Pg.

Hope you are though!!

A lot of what you mention does sound very pregnant-like!

whomovedmychocolate · 02/06/2007 16:45

My tests say you have to wait 17 days after the last time you were 'exposed to sperm' (oh what a fab way to phrase it! ) before you test to ensure an accurate result.

beansprout · 02/06/2007 16:55

"Exposed to sperm" - fab! Lots of the little fellas in raincoats, running around, flashing at women who are ttc....!

VoodooMama · 02/06/2007 16:58

hope you get the result you want.

very often a 'near thing' can help you both really see what you do want...

PinkTulips · 02/06/2007 17:00

i had very irregular periods too before getting pregnant and i never got a positive test with dd. lots of negatives and had to be scanned to find out whether i was or not.

not trying to get your hopes up but i would consider goiung to the doctor and insisting on a blood test if you don't get period in a few weeks and still feel off

Millie26 · 02/06/2007 18:23

Oooo..thanks everyone.Ill wait another week and test again and if it's negative then Ill go to the doctor.

Bf and I were just saying how this has made us feel all gooey and happy over the thought of being pregnant! you are so right.

Hmm...I think whomovedmychocolate must be right. Have developed horrid flu and not pg at all!

Ooohh! I got so excited! Just goes to show, you can be SO convinced cant you??

Still doesnt explain weird non-period but think Ill probably forget about it (while thinking about it quite a lot in the back of my mind... ) and look forward to joining the conception board in a few months

Thanks for all your thoughts, take care. x

PS -bf took me to A&E last night because my throat felt like it was closing up and I couldnt breathe properly and I mentioned my bleeding and feeling sick and that I could possibly be pregnant and the nurse was SO horrible to me. She asked if Id taken anything for the pain and I said no because I wasnt sure whether I was pregnant and it had only got really bad today and she almost shouted and said "well if the test was negative then you're not pregnant!" which made me cry which I really didnt want to do . She asked if I could be pregnant and I said 'maybe yes' and she looked at me as if I was dog poo and didnt even ask if maybe i actualy wanted to be, which made me feel really young and stupid. All this while I was struggling to take take in air - what a cow! I had really bad pains in my side so I was vaguely thinking maybe it was in my tubes or something but she didnt even go there. I guess she was proabably right, but it has completely put me off going to hospital if I ever did get pregnant! Can really see why these forums are so popular, its SO much more supportive!!

when i had to go to gynae dept to establish whether i'd miscarried or was preg they treated me like shit too and basically told me i'd lost the baby and shouldn't really have gotton preg anyway (was 20). they were horrible and mean and i found out later that they'd written it up as a mc without even finding out my scan results..... dd is 2 and a half now!

hospitals are horribe, avoid at all cost imo.

hope you're feeling better today, sounds like a nasty bug {{{hug}}}

Millie26 · 03/06/2007 13:24

Oh my, that's awful! Cant believe they wrote mc on your notes!

Really glad it wasnt true! X
