Anybody else 40 weeks pregnant and no sign of baby?

I'm currently 40+1, been feeling contraction like pains that the hospital told me is labour beginning on Sunday just to be told today by my midwife that she can't reach my cervix and that she doesn't think she will be here soon. It's so painful I'm beyond fed up
