5 weeks pregnant and no gestational sac

Hi everyone

I've just done through my first IVF cycle and it was successful! I was so happy until I started bleeding lightly which I know is normal and nothing to worry about.

On the 6th day of bleeding, I decided to go into hospital to get myself checked out as I was passing tiny blood clots. They did a scan and could not see a pregnancy in my womb no gestational sac was visible. At this point, I was 5 weeks and on Cyclogest for IVF.

My HCG level was very low only 570 and the doctor was concerned that this could be either an early miscarriage or an ectopic pregnancy. I don't have the symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy nor have I bled heavy enough for it to be a miscarriage yet.

I still have some pregnancy symptoms like sore breasts and fatigue. The bleeding has stopped. I am just wondering if anyone else had experienced this in their pregnancy and what it could be?

I have a follow-up appointment on Tuesday to test my hcg level again.

Sadly this happened to my friend on her first round of IVF, they did a follow up scan at 7 weeks to confirm the miscarriage.

I went for a scan at 5 weeks and nothing was seen on the scan (I'm now 15 weeks) and they suggested ectopic for me. It was just very early days. I don't think you're able to see anything on a scan unless it's over 1000hcg, so I've been told. Hope this reassures you a bit x

I had this too in a non IVF pregnancy. Don't worry too much, it really could go either way. At the mo it is more important that hcg is doubling every 48 hours and go back for a dcan next week. Good luck xxx

Thank you @kate123cl @peachesarenom for your kind positivity! However, I went in today and they scanned me again and no pregnancy could be seen and my HCG level dropped to 117 and confirmed it was a miscarriage.

Hi. I had fet bfp. I did scan at 4 weeks 5d ays. No gestational sac. I want to hear positive from anyone that with the same problem.

Hi Am ruffly 3/4 weeks according to clear blue test I took Saturday 18th July. anyway had a scan today 20/07/2020 and they didn’t see anything at all my hcg level on 15/7/2020 was 31 then on 17/7/2020 it was 45 and today 20/7/2020 it’s a 35 they saying it’s an ectopic but my tubes where clear ect on the scan am so confused. Just done another clear blue 20/7/2020 and it still says pregnant 1/2 weeks xx
