Help! ***** Clarithromycin

Has anyone of you ladies been put on clarithromycin during pregnancy? Please let me know! Did it affect you or the baby? 💕

Yes I've had three courses of clarithromycin in this pregnancy for recurrent ear infections- it is generally thought to be safe however obviously they can't do proper clinical trials in pregnant women for ethical reasons. Also the risk to the baby of an untreated infection is often greater than the risk from this widely used antibiotic.

I'm due to be induced tomorrow as I'm overdue so can't say if the baby is ok but I'll let you know! All monitoring has been fine though x

Oh I forgot to mention the only negative effect it seemed to have on me was that it made me a bit nauseous again in the mornings and I was sick a few times. This is a common side effect of this drug though and I have been quite sick throughout pregnancy anyway- plus getting rid of the infection was worth it!

Is it safe to take clarithromycin 500 mg twice a day while pregnant? 😫 I'm 26 weeks I tested H. Pylori positive

How did you get on taking them? I am literally the same as you I am 26 weeks pregnant and have also been tested for H. pylori and I’m so confused whether to take the antibiotics or not as I spoke to a pharmacist and he suggested to wait! X
