Miscarriage - not sure how far along, can anyone help

Hello,

Longtime poster but name changed for this as I might identify myself with this and others posts.

I had recently had a cp within days of finding out I was pregnant. I have previously had another cp/ miscarriage many years precious when I wasn't ttc. These are the only times I've been pregnant.

The first time I went to a family planning clinic rather than a doctors so not sure if it will be in my notes. I went for a pill prescription when they did a routine pt. the nurse said it was negative and sent me on my way. They then called me back in and told me that if had come up and was actually a positive test.

The rest is a bit of a blur as it was such a longtime ago and I was due to move to Australia the next month and was not looking to get pg. I was also pretty young and my 'bf' at the time didn't care. I think I was told to go back within the week to take the pill to start an abortion however i started bleeding the night before I went in.

When I went in they scanned me internally and said there was nothing there. I can't remember he specifics of what they said and if they said no heartbeat, sac etc I think they just said nothing there. I don't know how far along I was. I can't remember if I even missed a period, I was very unwell at the time. I do remember having sickness and being tired to the point I was relying on energy drinks and couldn't keep my eyes open at work. I never took a home pt as it didn't cross my mind.

Me and dh are now ttc. I haven't visited the drs hoping the next time we catch will be it however if i were to have another cp I would be going as I hear they will help after 3. I know it's a long shot but I don't know what's expected to see with an internal scan etc and I wondered if anyone more experienced than me may have an idea how far along I sounded? I'm not sure the clinic is even still open or if they would have any notes on me now.

I've had two chemical pregnancies. I'm sorry for your loss too. They were pretty shit for me as a family member conceived 'accidentally' around the same time as the first and my best friend at the time of my second. So I had to see what went right for them.

I'm not really entirely sure what you're asking in your post, but it's thought up to 50% of pregnancies end in chemicals (probably a touch lower but no official statistics). So they're really really common.

I went to my gp with the second as I felt really unwell. And he told me 'have some more miscarriages' and he'd offer tests. He was a real asshole about it, but he made the point about how common chemicals are...

Are you asking how far along you were when you had your first chemical pregnancy, years ago?

It seems likely not very far at all, since it sounds like a faint/barely there test positive and when they scanned you they saw no gestational sac, and you didn't notice passing one. I miscarried a 5 week gestational sac and I certainly noticed it passing and in the toilet. If you just had bleeding and didn't notice any larger pieces of tissue, put that together with the faint
positive and you were probably under 5 weeks pregnant.

my advice when trying to TTC is never be tempted to test before AF due as CP are common and it can get your hopes up only to be disappointed. Docs may refer you after 3 but as a rule docs will refer you for further tests once's you've been TTC for a year if you're under 30 or 6 months if you're over 30. I think it's 30 but I stand to be corrected... it might be a bit older. Good luck.

hoping2018 · 05/08/2018 09:56

If you have here they'll do tests.

hoping2018 · 05/08/2018 09:56

Three* not here.

So I don't agree with the above poster - because I'd want to know if I was having chemicals as I'd want investigation and treatment if there is any...

I'm talking from ALOT of experience. I will admit I'm guilty of early testing myself. I've had 6 MC at over 6 weeks and have been left very disappointed many times with faint lines only for AF to arrive on time or a couple of days late. CP don't necessarily mean something is "wrong" , they are very common but most women who aren't TTC won't even know they've happened as not testing, from my experience the docs won't start testing on nhs until you've been TTC a year. But I guess there is no harm in making an appointment and asking.

Thank you all, sorry my original post was unclear. Yes I was asking (long shot) if anyone could guess potentially how far along I had been with the first early mc.

Yes it was a faint test from the clinic & a 'normal' period from what I recall. Remember cramping but not terrible and I don't remember passing any tissue which as you say would suggest early. In my heard I had 6 weeks but this latest cp made me wonder and I just wondered how far I've have gotten in both.

The early testing is a nightmare I agree. I couldn't decide whether to this month or not but I spoke with the nurse briefly when I went in for something else who asked if I had been referred yet and to go if it happens a again. So I decided to test early to see and speak to the drs. I haven't caught since though but fx the next one is the real thing! Sorry for all your losses on here.
