Hi. I am 38 weeks pregnant and have had an awful stitch pain on and off all day and it just hasn't gone in the last hour it's very intense and painful. I have had a few Braxton Hicks to. Any ideas how to relieve it?x

It's mostly on my right side btw

Could it be labour? Warm bath, paracetamol and make sure you know where your hospital bag is just in case!

SnowWhite26 · 04/08/2018 19:16

I thought that would be more period pains? It's not on off its constant. Maybe it is start of something. Difficult to no I guess.

It’s different for lots of people. I had fairly quick labours so it was always constant. I would just relax and take a bath, make sure you have someone with you tonight and ring your midwife/Labour Ward for their opinion if you’re still in discomfort.

A friend of mine thought she was having Braxton hicks in the supermarket and thought it was hilarious until her waters broke Wink

Yeah my husband's here and I have just had a bath. It was the getting in and out and bending over that made the pains even worse. It's it's still awful on an hour I'll ring hospital to see. He isn't moving loads but that's not to unusual at this time plus when he is moving it hurts more lol

It does sound like you should clear any plans you have made for tomorrow! Good luck and let us know how you get on FlowersSmile

Don't wish to worry you op but bear in mind the appendix is on the right.

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 04/08/2018 19:30

Is it on your right hand side, a couple of fingers below your rib cage? If so it might be related to your gallbladder. Gallstones have a nasty habit of appearing during pregnancy. It's certainly worth a visit to your local hospital.

Notquiterichenough · 04/08/2018 19:42

I had this during my second pregnancy, never did get to the bottom of it. It wasn't labour, doctor said it was just one of those things.

SnowWhite26 · 04/08/2018 19:51

It's kinda quite low on my bump on the right side. Hurts more when getting up and down and picking things up etc

If it hurts more when you move, then it's not likely to be your gallbladder. Maybe a pulled muscle?

I do remember (back in 1999) when I had my last baby, that I had a terrible pain in my back for most of the day before I went into labour. It was very low in my back and not a pain I had felt before. I was 38 weeks pregnant too.

I’ve had this from pretty much 16 weeks. If I walk too fast or do anything a little too strenuous.. I have to sit down for 5 mins as if I don’t the pain will literally take my breathe away!! Once I’ve taken 5 mins I can get up and carry on and it’s fine. Mine is also on the right side.. bottom of belly. Spoke to my midwife about it at 28weeks and she just said it was strained ligaments.

SnowWhite26 · 04/08/2018 21:15

I have taken paracetamol think muscle pain is probably likely. Thanks xx

Do you know the position your baby is in? I had the most horrendous pain towards the end of my pregnancy but afterwards I realised it was the baby turning from breech to head down! When I went in for my planned section, they scanned me and sent me home as the baby had completely flipped since my last scan a week or two previously.

The pain felt like a mixture of an excruciating stitch and horrid indigestion.

SnowWhite26 · 04/08/2018 21:32

I am head down and engaged so hope he's not flipped the other way !

TwoDrifters · 04/08/2018 21:36

I’m sure he hasn’t! Sorry if I worried you!

WooYa · 04/08/2018 21:37

I had this at 35 weeks... got stuck sat on the floor at work and everyone though I was going into labourGrin I forced myself to move and it went pretty quickly.

sar501 · 04/08/2018 21:39

Could just be where the ligaments that support your growing womb are stretched and tender. I used to get this type of pain toward the end of both of my pregnancies - especially when I rolled over in bed. Or it could be early labour! Wink

SnowWhite26 · 04/08/2018 21:39

No I'm ok. Just going to bed I think

gamerchick · 04/08/2018 21:40

It's round ligament pain.

Lie on the settee or bed with your knees bent and rock your knees from side to side until it eases.

FallenAngel89 · 04/08/2018 21:50

Nearly 37 weeks and get this on and off. Just had it yesterday, for most of the day. I think it's just how baby is laid. Mine has gone today btw and I know it's definitely not labour pains for me (this is my 5th) Just walk a little and try stretch it out gently and drink plenty of water :)

MarmaladeAtkinsX · 05/08/2018 16:36

@snowwhite26 how are you getting on today?

SnowWhite26 · 05/08/2018 22:14

Hi. Yeah ok I have had lots of various niggles today but the stitch pain disappeared about mid day and has just come back again so really not sure what to think. I am now in bed and baby is kicking so that's good but stitch pain is bad again.I am so hot again tonight as well. Thankyou for all Ur advice x
