Hi I'm so new to this but thought I'd give it a go as I feel like I'm going crazy!

I found out on Sunday that I’m pregnant and I thought I was like 8 weeks. I rung the doctors for some advice as I had a tiny bit of bright red blood when I wiped. They said I had to go to the early pregnancy unit but it was literally a bit red when I wiped it wasn’t anything extreme but they wanted to check me out anyway. I saw the first woman and she asked for some info so I explained when my last period was however before the positive tests I did have 2 negatives so she said it could be less than 8 weeks and the scan would pick it up. The sonographer then couldn’t see anything so I had to have an internal where they still couldn’t see anything so she said it could be either a miscarriage or too early to tell. They said I should take a pregnancy test and it came positive with a really strong line. She said she needed to take blood tests to see my hormone levels but couldn’t get any blood out of me so I went to the phlebotomist and I’ve got to go back Saturday (tomorrow) at 3pm. If my hormone levels have gone up the pregnancy is okay and ongoing and if they go down it will be miscarriage. She said there was nothing on the scan to say ectopic and she still has hope but she didn’t wanna promise anything. It was the longest day of my life so far and I really don’t wanna wait any longer!!

Sorry for the long wind of it and I hope someone can shine a light on it!

Emily Smile

I had similar with this pregnancy, though very early. It’s horribly stressful and there’s literally nothing you can do but wait. Sympathies!

Was there anything in particular you wanted to know?

emilyanne96 · 03/08/2018 10:33

Hi did you have a positive or negative outcome? I just wanted someone who had been through the same to share their experiences with me to put my mind at ease really. I am devastated and I don't even know what's going to happen I think I'm just expecting the worst

Thanks for your reply x

Mine doubled and I’m a bit over 6 weeks now. I didn’t get an early scan as it was too early (4+3ish), and then when the levels doubled they said they weren’t worried. So positive for me as far as I know, but no scan for another 6 weeks.

How sure on your dates are you?

The main thing I’d say after my experience is to make sure you know who is supposed to contact you with your results, and when. I had a real runaround when nobody called me back, which made it even more stressful.

I had a similar experience although I was only around 5 weeks. I had a scan and was told I had a pregnancy of unknown location - options were that either I was too early, I had miscarried or it was ectopic. They took my bloods and repeated them after 48 hours, they did rise although not by enough to suggest a viable pregnancy, they were then concerned about ectopic pregnancy. Anyway, I had to go again another 48 hours later by which point by HCG had dropped. Sadly for me it ended up with a miscarriage. It is an awful time just waiting to know one way or the other.

I told them based on my last period I would be 8 weeks however when I explained I'd had negative tests as well they explained it could be less than 8 weeks and possible nothing could be picked up...

I don't think Im as far as I thought originally so not 100% sure on my dates I just hope tomorrow hurries up. I suppose there's 2 options really as they ruled out an ectopic. I have no cramps or pains at all and still feel 'pregnant' so fingers crossed.

So sorry to hear about your loss X

I've just took a clear blue and it's telling me that I'm only 2-3 weeks pregnant so I'm deffo earlier than I thought I was!

Fingers crossed X

I’d strongly advise that you stop doing tests as they can be misleading.

The tests roughly measure your level of hcg, which remain in your system but start to drop if you do have a miscarriage. You can still get a positive result. This is what the EPU told me- they actually said ‘don’t do more tests’.

Also, when dating, you go from the first day of your period, but the digital tests don’t take that into account. It’s really confusing!

Hi

So I've been for my next lot of bloods today and was told I'd know my results tonight. I rang them and she said they don't give blood tests results over the phone it'll be through my gp. I told her it was regarding my hcg levels and needed to know and she just said she'd ring me back

It's like waiting to be shot Sad

They've just rung and my levels have doubled to over a 1000 so they are going to ring me with a scan time for next Wednesday! Hopefully we will be able to see something on the screen by then!

Thanks for all your comments X
