I’ve now lost 2kg at 17 weeks with twins. I have an obvious bump, but no gain, and I was fairly skinny anyway. I’ve had severe sickness and even though that’s going, I still can’t eat. Most foods make me gag, feel nauseous and after two bites I feel full.

I’ve read that with low weight gain, you’re more likely to give birth prematurely. My consultant wasn’t too bothered as she said some women lose weight at first, especially ones with sickness, but I’m slightly worried.

With DS I only gained about 16lbs in the entire pregnancy so I know I don’t tend to gain much, but if anyone has advice it’d be appreciated.

I don't have any advice, but in my last pregnancy I only gained one stone, dd was born just after her due date and weighed a little more than average. I'm pregnant again and I am following the same pattern. I'm 20 weeks and have lost 4kg due to morning sickness which just isn't going.

As you're pregnant with twins, it's more likely that you will give birth prematurely any way isn't it?

It is more likely, I’ll be having a cesarean at 37 weeks anyway, so they will definitely be early but I’m concerned about how early.

I’m hoping it’s just me, as like you I don’t seem to gain much during pregnancy. It’s just worrying me a bit as it’s twins, I expected to gain more.

I understand the worrying. My dd was 8lbs which surprised me as I didn't have a particularly big bump (I measured a week behind). Given her birth weight, and amniotic fluid/increased blood flow, it seems likely that I didn't actually gain any weight at all during pregnancy - it was all baby.

I have lost a lot more weight this time. I have 20 week scan today, I was at risk of down syndrome as my papp-a levels were low. DS result has come back as 1 in a million so we seem to be OK on that front but my understanding of low papp-a levels is that the baby is likely to be smaller than average so should hopefully have some indication on that front today.

Im quite big and lost weight beginning of pregnancy due to sickness etc

Im 35 weeks and haven't put much on.
Ive been told will prob be lighter than pre pregnancy once baby is here

My son was 7lb 12, so not tiny either. My bump measured about 30 weeks when I had him, and I instantly lost it within days of giving birth so mine seemed to be all baby too.

I haven’t had the blood test for that as DP and I declined downs screening due to it not changing our decision either way so seemed like a lot of extra stress. At our scans the babies seem to be fine, and no concerns have been raised about them. My bloods are also fine, I was convinced I’d be anaemic but I’m surprisingly not. So everything seems okay, it’s just not what I’d been led to expect!

Good luck with your scan!

What weight were you before conceiving? First time round I was obese and actually lost a little weight during pregnancy - DD was 7lbs and 2 days late. Am nearly 38w and have only put on 5lbs so far, growth scan at 36w suggested 6.5 lbs at that point and not yet engaged.

I was 9stone 6 and now I’m 9 stone 2. I’m 5”7
