Oh God what's just happened to me? First ever migraine or something more serious?

About an hour ago the sunlight was shining through the window and my eyes fgelt funny I thought i'd just been blinded by the sun so went into the other room. Then I felt really weird my eyes felt funny and my vision was disturbed kind of floaty and weird , a bit trippy. I panicked and went to lie down upstairs and then after about 20 mins I got pins and needles in my left cheek and thewn my tongue thewy both felt swollen but weren't that faded after about 10 minutes. I haven't got a headache as such more like a tightening around the front of my head as though it has an elastic band round. I'm 9 weeks pregnant and am taking low dose asprin for thrombophilia. I'm seeing the gp at 10 am anyway to let her know i'm pregnant so will of course mention this then. What the hell is wrong with me has anyone else had this?

Sounds exactly like what they call a 'classic' migraine - all the weird stuff that comes before the headache is called the 'aura'.

The bad news is that you are likely to feel very washed out for the next few days.

Poor you. However there are lots of good remedies around & lots of MN threads about it so when you are feeling better have a dig around & fingers crossed you don't get another.

Does sound like classic onset signs of a migraine so poor you as they are horrible. Make sure you tell the doctor cause they can adivse the best thing to take bearing in mind your aspirin and pg. - Congratulations by the way

Oh bloody hell I could do without this but rather a migraine than a stroke! The thing is i'm prone to panic attacks so this has freaked me out.

I did get bad headaches in early pregnancy with dd but didn't have the vision thing. With this the pain isn't actually as bad more like tightening it was the pins and needles and the vision thing that worried me.

I too had never had a migraine in my life till I was pregnant (started getting them at around week 10) and now I still have them and can't get rid of them grrrr

only good thing was that they went away as the pregnancy went on

Thanks everyone I feel less freaked out now. My head is aching now but i've just taken some paracetemol so hopefully they'll help. Also feel sick but that's nothing new as ms had been ten times worse with this pregnancy as well.

Gp said she thinks I had a near faint I'm leaning more towards the migraine theory myself. Anyhow she was very helpful and said I would be under the consultant due to my thrombophilia and would get a scan quite quickly because of this. I'm also due on January 10th which is my late mum's 65th Brithday.

ledodgy, I don't know whether you know me (I've changed my name recently too - n disguise ) I'm an occupational therapist and a specialist patient for the migraine association, I had some thoughts about your original post and the reaction of your GP

• it does sound a bit migraine like but the 'headache' part of a migraine would normally have you in bed. With your thrombophilia you need to mention this episode to your consultant as soon as you get to see him/her. TBH, migraines and TIAs (mini strokes with no lasting effects) have very similar symptoms and your consultant should know this has happened because of that. Your symptoms were very indicative of something neurological and yes, they can happen with a migraine, but the headaches that follows would usually be a throbbing like pain on one side only - although a migraine can be both sides (vague I know). It could very well be that it was a migraine but as you don't have a past history of them I think there's enough doubt to pursue it.

Sorry if this is worrying to you but I think it's important you get checked out by an expert and in your case that's your consultant.

Don't know if it's any relevance at all, but when I was in the first trimester, I started having strange visual things followed by a headache. I would see sort of zig zag lines flashing at the side of my vision, for about 20 minutes, then get a headache - not a very bad one, paracetamol helped. It happened a few times and I've had no trouble since. Was told it was possibly migraine, very common to have them start in pregnancy, and my blood pressure is always very very low so it wasn't that.

I had strange visuals (flashing lights and zig-zags etc.) in first pregnancy, went away after that and then came back in second pregnancy (so badly I couldn't see, but not too much of a headache). My GP said migraine, as did other sufferers (but in your case probably a good idea to get it checked out).

It sounds exactly like my migraines. They can be frightening (I am a panic attack person too) , some of the weird symptoms are just a little too weird sometimes, especially sudden stabbing pains/odd flooding sensations/pulsating etc - but I've had them regularly from the age of 6 and I'm OK

Were you feeling hungry when it happened - if my blood sugar gets low everything "shimmers" and I need to eat quickly. The same thing happens with DH though he gets full blown migraines.

Anyway have had a weird day went to the loo not long after I got back from gps and there was a very small amount of blood in my discharge (sorry tmi) when I wiped so I rang my EPU and they told me to come in. They gave me an internal and everything looked ok and dr felt my uterus etc and took a swab and I now have a scan on Sunday morning! I'm not too worried as the same thing happened when I was pregnant with ds and it turned out to be a touch of thrush so fingers crossed for Sunday.

hope it goes well ledodgy I bled a lot in my first pg and lots of people do. 99% it was a migraine - they can take almost any form neurologically - but best to make sure the experts agree.
