Sweep question?

I'm 40+1 & I was wondering whether you can request a sweep? When I saw my midwife 2 weeks ago she said they don't usually do them until 41 weeks but I've completely had enough now & just want this little baby out. I've got an appt with the midwife tomorrow & wanted to request to have one sooner so i'm hoping they will be willing to give me one before next week.

I’m surprised they don’t do one until 41 weeks - I was under pressure to be induced before then!

Yes you can request one. They can also refuse if they don’t feel it appropriate for you for some reason but they should explain why to you.

Yes you can request them, I have had 2 now at my request... Got another one booked for Friday! Good luck, I hope you have a baby soon :-)

Ps, I'm also really fed up, being induced Saturday!

I was offered (and accepted) a sweep at my 39 week appointment

fruityb · 01/08/2018 16:13

I was offered one at 38 weeks and had it at 40+3. I was already in the early throes of labour to be fair.

It was bloody horrible though - I didn’t like it at all.

Is it your first baby? Think guidelines say 40 weeks, and then 41 weeks for subsequent babies. Shouldn't really be done before 40 weeks so surprised ppl have had them so early

Tinks15 · 01/08/2018 16:42

No this is my second baby. I was induced with my first & I reeeeeally don't want to be induced again this time round had a rough time with my first so want to avoid that again!

Im having my second (due Sunday)
I've been given sweeps by a labour ward doctor (~37+3)
I also got one in triage as I requested another and the doctor had to give written consent (38+5)
I asked my midwife if I could have one at my 40+2 appointment and she has said he can't do it until 41 weeks but that she will request one for me, has tobe approved by a doctor.

I will not I only got my first because I was having tightenings and the second was because I'd had 3 episodes of reduced movements.

First sweep I had bloody mucus for two days. Bishops score of 7.

Second sweep did nothing. But then my bishops score was a 9 at the time so maybe I'm as ripe as I can be until babies head decides to engage.

Hoping I go in myself before my due date but I'm hoping I'll get a sweep at 40+2 if not. Whether it does anything or not remains to be seen.

Good luck x

Midwife gave me a sweep (horaay) said I was 2-3cm dilated already anyway but wow it was bloody uncomfortable! Wonder what the chances of this kicking things off?

I had one at 39 weeks.

Pretty sure it gave me a uterine infection, but that's another story.

@Tinks15 if your body is ready then a very good chance. Fingers crossed for you! X
