Drinks to try with morning sickness

Hi all,

I'm 13 weeks today and still feeling nauseous and being sick. Drinking water (even small sips throughout the day) makes me feel really yucky and usually results in vomiting. I've gone off tea (tried black red bush tea last night and that's a no too) , ginger ale, squash, coke, 7 Up, soya chocolate milk, soya strawberry milk, sparkling water with/without lemon slice. It's like drinking full stop makes me feel sick. I don't know why I'm posting really but does anyone have any other suggestions please? I'm not dangerously dehydrated or anything but I really miss having a good drink - especially when it's hot.

Thanks!

I am currently 18weeks. Back in the first trimester I stuck with grapefruit juice (!!) or else still old-fashioned lemonade. Both helped me massively with the nausea.

Picklesandpies · 01/08/2018 09:18

Thanks @CheesePleaseLoueese I'll try lemonade. I think the only thing is that I tried lemon squash and that made me really sick - maybe too acidic?

Watered down apple juice.
Although nearly everything made me sick. I discovered that if I ate/drank something and was then sick, if I immediately ate or drank some of it would stay down. Sorry - TMI Envy

I could also only manage grapefruit juice, usually mixed with fizzy water. Also, ice lollies (only lemon ones), and allowing an ice cube to melt in my mouth kept me just about hydrated.

coffeekittens · 01/08/2018 09:23

Ginger and lemon tea?

Bananarama12 · 01/08/2018 09:26

Lime squash was the only thing I could drink all pregnancy or watered down orange juice. Tiny sips every 5 minutes.

TamiTayorismyparentingguru · 01/08/2018 09:26

Oddly orange juice was the only thing that really worked for me. Orange juice and salt & vinegar crisps - such a healthy diet for 4 months! Hmm

mavydoes · 01/08/2018 09:28

Can you get prescribed some anti sickness?

Believe it or not pepsi max worked great for me but had to be freezing cold and with salty pretzels.

Babysharkdododo · 01/08/2018 09:29

I struggled with drinking enough in the first trimester too. Line cordial with fizzy water was ok but too much have me indigestion.
You might find it better to suck ice lollies, chew ice chips, eat watermelon, jelly etc so that you can ingest more water without actually drinking it, i found that easier on my tummy.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 01/08/2018 09:32

Lucozade always settled me.

NameChangeCuddleBums · 01/08/2018 09:32

I found fruit juice lollies were ok, orange juice ones, It’s not a good drink but it might do. Also hot ribena or similar.

Picklesandpies · 01/08/2018 09:35

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Now I've dealt with my morning sickness session I'm going to brave the supermarket so will refer to suggestions while I'm there. I'll try anything!

@mavydoes I have actually got a packet of promethezine (sp?) but now I'm 13 weeks I'm really hoping I can just get through this last bit and start feeling better without having to take them. But maybe that's wishful thinking!

I feel like a massive wanker suggesting this but I found kumbucha really settling on my stomach either a gingery one or a raspberry one. I used shop brought as I couldn’t handle trying to make my own.

bluechameleon · 01/08/2018 09:36

Ribena, the ready made stuff in the cartons.

multiplemum3 · 01/08/2018 09:37

Fresh orange juice and lemonade with loads of ice helped me

userabcname · 01/08/2018 09:39

Chewing ice helped me. Or full fat ice cold pepsi sipped slowly.

winetomorrow · 01/08/2018 09:40

I drank gallons of cold soda water with a splash of lime cordial, it was the only thing I craved and I'm still addicted one year on! But it's not great for heartburn. But great for thirst quenching Smile

Picklesandpies · 01/08/2018 09:41

Looking up kumbuncha now... Hmm

Weirdly Dr Pepper worked for me!

My DH blended ice cubes and fruit juice for me. It worked wonders in settling the nausea for a bit! Otherwise it was lemonade, or blackcurrant cordial with lemonade in.

buttonmoonb4tea · 01/08/2018 11:12

Grapefruit juice or still lemonade (Morrison's have the zingiest I've tasted). Take this from someone who had sickness until 35 weeks with DS.

NotBuiltForThisWorld · 01/08/2018 11:17

Watered down Andrews salts made with iced water somehow did it for me, even though gross, the cool mediciney taste psychologically cut through the nausea. And then lucozade. Hope it passed soon!

Notlostjustexploring · 01/08/2018 11:21

Pint glass stacked full with ice, then I drank the melting water.
Del monte orange ice lollies
Smoothies were good, and they actually taste really nice coming back up. (I became quite the expert on food combinations and how they taste being brought up.Hmm)
Cold water with a dash of lemon juice.

I remember that period - being so thirsty I was drinking 3 litres of liquid a day, but really struggling to find a liquid to drink!!

Hopefully it improves soon for you!!

Tomato juice
