Drinks to try with morning sickness

Hi all,

I'm 13 weeks today and still feeling nauseous and being sick. Drinking water (even small sips throughout the day) makes me feel really yucky and usually results in vomiting. I've gone off tea (tried black red bush tea last night and that's a no too) , ginger ale, squash, coke, 7 Up, soya chocolate milk, soya strawberry milk, sparkling water with/without lemon slice. It's like drinking full stop makes me feel sick. I don't know why I'm posting really but does anyone have any other suggestions please? I'm not dangerously dehydrated or anything but I really miss having a good drink - especially when it's hot.

Thanks!

Some more great ideas - thanks! @Notlostjustexploring that's actually really useful info re smoothies and the 'after taste'. I really enjoyed lemon squash but my goodness it burnt coming back up Confused

What are St Andrews salts? Must google again!

Not sure where the 'St' bit came from Grin

Lilt
Appetiser & apple juice
Squash with fizzy water

Water is making me sick too, and gives me really bad heartburn, bizarre!

Kombucha isn’t safe in pregnancy - shop bought brands will have a warning on the label. I usually make my own so I’m missing it at the moment!

somethingfromnothing · 01/08/2018 12:29

I’m just coming up for 12 weeks and have been surviving on blackcurrent Capri sun drinks and hula hoops Blush

Picklesandpies · 01/08/2018 14:17

Glad it's not just me surviving on rubbish. Bought loads of your recommendations in Tescos. Currently feeling very sick and listening to dc try to cobble together their own lunch downstairs. Urgh... when will this pass?!

I now it's not the nicest tasting but, diarolyte or other similar rehydration products helped get some much needed fluid and sugar in me when morning sickness was at it's worst. I took small sips every 10 mins or so.

Hi OP, sorry to hear you're feeling bad.
The only liquid I could keep down when pregnant with my son was really watery flat cola.
I also tried to eat lots of high water content foods like cucumber, melon etc
I hope you're feeling a bit better soon.

Picklesandpies · 01/08/2018 16:46

Is that suitable then @BethanyCourt? That's great if so! Tastes foul yes but always so helpful after stomach bug.

Thanks @FrancesV83

Feeling a bit sorry for myself as thought I'd see a marked improvement by now but seem to be feeling even worse today.

I actually do love melon and did eat quite a lot in the earlier weeks but right now it seems anything 'wet' makes me feel sick. I've just made some chips and eaten those... this baby is getting NO vitamins (other than folic and vitamin D tab!) Feel guilty but if I'm just going to be sick anyway then seems a bit futile forcing myself to eat veg etc (which I normally love.)

Orange juice and lemonade helps me. Hope you get some relief soon!

CobaltRose · 01/08/2018 17:28

Water makes my nausea worse, bizarrely. I've found eating lots of bland starchy foods like plain crackers, dry toast, bread etc helps.

Chickoletta · 01/08/2018 18:49

Diet Vimto got me through!

bexcee · 01/08/2018 18:56

Ice cold Pepsi with half a teaspoon of sugar stirred in to get rid of the fizziness helped me.
I had terrible morning sickness with all three of my pregnancies and even though the children are now 12, 13 and 17 there's still some foods I can't face as they remind me of being sick all those years ago!
Eat and drink whatever you can the baby will take what it needs from you so won't suffer.

mnahmnah · 01/08/2018 19:01

This did it for me!

I'm 12 weeks and have orange juice and/ or lemonade.

Angeliki159 · 01/08/2018 19:12

Asda have cheap isotonic drinks. Pack of 4 for 1.29. I swear by them when I feel rubbish for whatever reason.
I made some ice cubes with it and sucked them.
Also If you like herbal/fruity teas, t2 have one called Red Green Dreamy which is safe for pregnancy and has a peachy taste son is quite refreshing.
I found holding water in my mouth for 30 seconds and swallowing slowly (don't gulp) made me feel more refreshed and in turn let me drink more after.

Definately speak to a doc. I was given some tablets to help with the sickness and signed off work.

keepingbees · 01/08/2018 19:16

I found drinking only ice cold drinks helped. Coke actually helped me as it made me burp which eased the nausea if that makes sense. What about a slush puppie?

bellinisurge · 01/08/2018 19:21

I filtered my water but it still tasted horrid. This was after I had been hospitalised with dehydration caused by hyperemesis. I was under instruction to do what I could to get liquid in. I could manage lettuce and cucumber and used this as my "getting liquids into me" strategy as well.

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 01/08/2018 19:23

i'm vomming like a good un at the mo - not pregnant though :)

my gp recommended half apple juice half water

its been working ok so far

good luck op

Notlostjustexploring · 01/08/2018 19:52

@Picklesandpies glad to be of assistance advising on vomit flavours!! (I can further advise that dry roasted nuts and chicken soup as a combo is foul)

bobstersmum · 01/08/2018 20:05

Try fennel tea, cold with ice in, it can help nausea too.

Merrz · 01/08/2018 20:08

Green tea or peppermint tea seems to be working for me. I make it with a big splash of cold water so you can have a good gulp

Monkeysocks2017 · 01/08/2018 22:29

Lemonade for me!! Can't stand it now xx

lorisparkle · 01/08/2018 22:35

I survived on lemonade and salt and vinegar Pringles with ds1, I also would eat polos when out and about and then started to like kiwi fruit.
