I woke up with a touch of spotting. Fine I thought and plugged on with my day. I was taking dc to zoo in the car and started having awful cramps. When I got to the zoo I could hardly stand.
Sil took dc in to the zoo and me and dp went to hospital suspecting ectopic. When I was there the pains had totally gone.
I went to the early pregnancy unit and they said it was too early to scan. I'm about 4 or 5 weeks.
They did 3 pregnancy tests and they came back negative but at a&E their one was positive. They basically hurried me out the door and said they will call me with blood test results.
I took a test at home and it came up positive straight away. I then get a phone call saying I'm pregnant and hcg levels are fine so I've to go back in 2 days just to make sure my hormones are doubling.

What are the chances of the ward having faulty tests. Crazy. Can't help but wonder if they tested someone else's pee.

I had something very similar and he responded to several similar posts since, so think this is actually quite common.

Found out I was pregnant early, at 4+1. Had some bleeding so went to A&E at 4+3 but my urine test came back negative. The blood test came back with a low hcg level, so I had to go back for another 48 hours later to check the levels had doubled, which they had.

The A&E GP made me feel really worried by saying my hcg levels were very low, but the Gynae doctor who called me back said that there’s quite a range of what’s normal in the early stages and it’s the doubling that they’re looking for and not just the number itself.

Nothing will show up on the scan until your level is over 1000. Just as an example, mine was 97 at 4+3.

Hope that helps!

*and have responded.

Wow not just me then. It's soul destroying to hear your not pregnant when you know you are.
How are you now?
Pains are totally gone but I still have a slight tinge of pink when I wipe. It's not really a bleed just minor spotting but it's still a worry. The pain I had earlier was like the worst period cramps I've ever had but very short lived. The pain was just above my pubic bone.

I work as a nurse and the hospital tests are for a higher level of HCG and not as sensitive as the early pregnancy tests , as they don’t need to be as we just need to know if someone is pregnant or not and not necessarily early . You must be 4 weeks

Elderflower78 · 31/07/2018 16:20

Yes I'm 4 weeks. That's what they said according to blood test. The staff nurse said their tests are the most sensitive so theirs will be more reliable. I knew she was wrong.

6 weeks tomorrow here, but desperate for that first scan to really know everything is ok!

It was also a horrible experience for me. The 48 hour wait was bad enough, but then nobody called with my supposedly urgent results. I spent a lot of time being bounced about on the phone, EPU and Gynae departments had closed....it was really awful.

Here’s to hoping everything works out. I’ve never been so relieved to feel so bloody awful in my life. Good luck!
