I’ve been taking citalopram 40mg and I’ve just found out I’m pregnant ? WHat shall I do ? The withdrawals are horrific so I can’t just stop will my doctor start weaning me off them ?

Just book an appointment and talk it through with them. For some people, staying on medication is the best option, but they’ll be able to advise.

I was on Sertraline when I found out I was pregnant, and tailed it off over the first 12 weeks but had been gradually reducing my dosage anyway. I never felt any pressure from the GP or midwives to stop, and wouldn’t have stopped if it had made things worse.

Congratulations!

How have you felt coming off it if you don’t mind me asking ? I feel my life is a lot better now so I think I’d be able to do it but I’ll book and appointment and talk it through thank you xx

You can’t take citalopram while pregnant so don’t worry.

Go and have a chat with your GP, I tailed off mine too early because I felt better, not realising the tablets had made me feel better so it’s always worth talking to your doctor.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Totally fine, actually. It was a while ago for me now, and this is probably the best I’ve ever felt.

I was concerned that I’d find it hard to cope, or that that all the hormones and body changes would wreck everything again, but life is great! My son is nearly 14 months and everything is still good.

Good luck. Hope it works out well for you too, but seriously just do what is best for you, even if that is continuing with medication.
