GTT test was horrible :(

Just got home after having the GTT test. It’s my fourth DC but I only had the test with my first and I’d forgotten how horrible it actually is. I felt fine for the first hour but then suddenly broke out in a cold sweat, felt hot and clammy and also felt extremely nauseous. Luckily managed to hold it together without fainting or vomiting till the second blood test then ran to the hospital cafe and stuffed my face Grin. I just feel utterly wiped out now, it’s really knocked me for six.

Is this a bad sign that I have GD or is it a normal reaction? I didn’t sleep very much last night either which probably hasn’t helped.

I felt like crap when I went for. Y second set of bloods.. so fucking tired!!
But my results came back fine so doesn't necessarily mean anything x

I have had a bruise for a week

I didn't have that reaction. I felt faint after an hour for about 5 minutes then felt fine. I know other people who found it really horrible but don't have GD.

Wow that bruise is nasty Sad, hope it’s healed now.

I don’t remember it being as bad when I had it nine years ago with DC1 but I can’t really remember properly. It was about an hour after the first blood test and that manky drink that I suddenly felt very ill. Feel ok now I’ve had a little nap and more food.

I felt really sleepy during mine, but surprisingly not nauseous (still have NVP). The midwives said it was completely normal and offered me a reclining chairGrin.

I didn't have diabetes, although my iron levels were borderline - if you have anaemia I can't imagine the GTT would help!

NCPuffin · 30/07/2018 14:38

Sleepiness also only hit me after an hour or so!

ConfusionIsNothingNew · 30/07/2018 14:43

My GTT in my first pregnancy was fine and I ended up with GD.

With this pregnancy they found it really hard to get the blood samples out of me, by the 2 hour bloods I felt faint, clammy and threw up the glucose drink 🤢. Don't have GD this time though, so it was worth it!! 😂

I have been wondering whether I have anaemia for a couple of weeks actually so that’s interesting. See the midwife next week for bloods so will find out then. Hopefully it’s that rather than GD.

I felt horrible during mine, I generally struggle if I don't have breakfast anyway, when I'm pregnant I feel the need to eat even more otherwise I go very light headed and faint feeling. I felt like that on and off throughout the whole time I had to wait. My bloods were ok though, albeit a bit on the low side (DM was diabetic and she said with the blood reading I had, she'd have been close to hypo but they said mine was fine). I'm having the test again next week and absolutely dreading it.

chloechloe · 30/07/2018 15:42

I felt really rough the first two times I had it too and the results came back fine. I think it’s just the fact of not having eaten, especially coupled with the hot weather at the moment. I’m expecting no. 3 and even discussed with the Dr not having the test this time as I felt so bad last time. At least you have it behind you now!

I had a banging headache, nausea and felt really spaced out with mine (the student midwife also made a bit of a mess of my arms too taking blood) My results were completely normal. I don't think how you react means much!
