I'm due anytime now...bags all packed and then I thought, I remember how nice it was showering and sorting myself out and feeling "human" again after the birth with my existing dc....but it's been a while, I don't want to sit there with wet hair and stuff - are their hairdryers?! Do I take one?! I feel like a vain idiot but it's not because I care what I look like just want to feel normal again afterBlush

You can't really use a hairdryer in a room with 3 other women and their babies. They are not provided!!

AssassinatedBeauty · 30/07/2018 10:06

There won't be hairdryers there. If the postnatal ward is single rooms then I guess it wouldn't be too antisocial to take one. The PP is right that on a ward with bays you would be a bit unreasonable to take such a noisy item.

DannyDogg · 30/07/2018 10:16

No the nhs doesnt provide them book a private room if you want to take one

Get your hair plaited around due date. Nice and tight so it stays in. X ☓

amilosingitor · 30/07/2018 14:12

I wasn't thinking of taking one and using it on the ward don't worry lol. I couldn't remember if they had one of those holiday type ones in the bathroom!

If I knew when I was having it I would have my hair plaited!

We've been told that hairdryers aren't allowed to be plugged in on the ward because they would all need to be checked by an electrician. Phone chargers are ok though because they don't use as much power. Probably varies area to area though.

I guess I was lucky in that i can keep my hair in plaits for days and my labour was 3days long 😂

SoyDora · 30/07/2018 14:39

I never made it to a ward, I was discharged straight from the delivery suite. I took my own hairdryer and used it after my shower.

Mousefunky · 30/07/2018 14:43

Some people are discharged from the delivery room or self-discharge as I did with DC3 but honestly, doing my hair was the last thing on my mind Grin.

bluechameleon · 30/07/2018 15:24

I think there was one in the bathroom? But I might be imagining it...

SoyDora · 30/07/2018 15:28

I hate sitting with wet hair and knew we were being discharged imminently (3 hour discharge) into the snow so I definitely wanted to dry mine!
