I'm 20 weeks and I've put on a stone and a half already is that normal gone from 8 stone to 9.8 ??
I'm not bothered about the weight just wondering if it sounds ok or if something else is going on??

I'd put on 9lbs by week 20. I'm now at week 30 and have put on 13lb in total.....but I'm overweight and I think we generally tend to put on more/less depending on our starting weight. You can always discuss with your MW if you're concerned.

Britta1 · 30/07/2018 07:14

I’m 24 weeks and I’ve put on about 10lb so far. I think it’s quite difficult to compare really as everyone’s so different! Like pp said it’ll depend on how your weight was to start with and some women carry more water etc than others in pregnancy. Sure your MW will tell you if it’s a concern :)

WhirlingTurkey · 30/07/2018 07:41

I'd chat with your midwife if you are concerned. I don't think you need to worry though. The range of "normal" weight gain in pregnancy is huge and depends on so many factors.

I had gained almost two stone by 36 weeks. Midwife wasn't concerned when she weighed me. I wasn't weighed after that as far as I remember, so no idea what I weighed just before I gave birth.

WhirlingTurkey · 30/07/2018 07:43

P.S. Meant to add I only think midwife will be interested in your weight if your BMI goes into the higher bands. I'd guess that's unlikely based on the weights you have given, unless you are very, very short.

Stephisaur · 30/07/2018 07:49

I was overweight to begin with but have somehow put on a stone. DH’s nan informed me on Saturday that I’m looking thinner in myself and she thinks I’m all bump.

MWs haven’t been worried yet. Not much I can really do - I haven’t even been eating that much (can’t finish dinner which is saying something!) and already trying to eat right.

Emma765 · 30/07/2018 07:50

I'm 23 weeks and gained 4lbs. Definitely got a smaller appetite since getting pregnant and have noticeably lost weight from arms and face, have a large bump for how far along I am but will be checking with midwife that I'm ok at my 25 week appointment.

I think a lot of my weight was cider and wine Grin

Hairpulling · 30/07/2018 07:56

I am 23weeks and have put on a stone and a half! Had gestational diabetes with my first so think I'm may have it again this time round.

WhatAnAbsolutePenis · 30/07/2018 08:36

19 weeks and put on 4lb.

This doesn’t sound like much but it worries me because with my last 2 I didn’t put any weight on until past 20 weeks (despite a sizeable bump) and piled it on in the 3rd trimester.

So I think I’m going to be pretty overweight after this.
I was borderline as it was.

leanne9312 · 30/07/2018 08:58

Thank you everyone for your help I will mention it at midwife next week, I'm 5ft3 incase anyone was wondering.

I am at risk of gestational diabetes and have a glucose test in September so it could be something to do with that x

I'm 19 weeks and I've lost 4kg. I'm still suffering with morning sickness and generally have little appetite. I only put on 1 stone in my last pregnancy for the same reasons.

wimbler · 30/07/2018 11:00

I'm 19w today and put on 2-3lb so far. I didn't suffer from sickness or nausea but I did lose around 2lb in the first few weeks which I put down to cutting out the booze!

MrSpock · 30/07/2018 11:40

I’m nearly 17 weeks and haven’t gained anything. I have severe nausea and can’t eat much.

polkadotpixie · 30/07/2018 13:17

I think I'd put on about a stone by 20 weeks. I'm now 33 weeks and up 1st 9lbs. I had terrible nausea and eating was the only thing that helped

I'm also 5'3. I know I'm going to have some weight to lose after he arrives but I'm hoping not to put on more than approximately 2st in total

My sister put on 2.5st in her pregnancy, had a 6lb baby and was still back to her pre-pregnancy weight inside 4 months so I'm hoping it's doable!

SoyDora · 30/07/2018 14:37

19 weeks and have put on 1lb. Have been suffering with extreme food aversion though!

Mousefunky · 30/07/2018 14:38

I gained 4 stone in my first pregnancy Sad. It was late 2009/early 2010 when we had the huge snowstorm for months and I was trapped indoors so I got lazy throughout the last trimester as a result and just ate my weight in carbs. Gained two stone in my second and third pregnancies which is more ‘normal’.

I’m 26 weeks atm and have gained about a stone so far which is fine. I’m hoping to only gain another stone. I have big 10lb babies so lose a stone giving birth.

leanne9312 · 30/07/2018 18:03

That's what I don't understand I used to eat my meals and like 3 or 4 chocolate bars a night and like 10 coffees a day , now I'm only eating meals and 2 or 3 coffees so why am I gaining a lot more weight than usual lol

Buttercup53 · 30/07/2018 18:12

I’m nearly 18 weeks and have gained nothing. Had extreme food aversion in the first trimester and lost a lot of weight, but now I’m eating like mad and not putting anything on. I’m physically larger than I was, I can tell because nothing fits me, but I can’t understand why I’m not gaining when I’m trying so hard to. Which I know sounds annoying but it’s honestly worrying me that I can’t seem to gain weight.

MagicalCreatures · 30/07/2018 19:15

I found a website (can’t remember which) that calculates your weight gain during pregnancy. You type in your starting weight etc and it tells you what a healthy weight would be for how many weeks you are. X

PeachesandPie · 30/07/2018 19:19

I'd put on 2 stone by 20 weeks and that was with severe sickness too. The normal range varies so much I wouldn't be concerned.

dorothybythesea · 30/07/2018 19:51

I've gained a stone. Started at a very slim weight, BMI 19-20. Was told V normal by MW, should gain 25-35 pounds whole pregnancy and more than halfway now.
