Hi ladies,
Im brand new here and I could really do with some advice from you. Basically I got 2 faint positives frer tests last week on thurs and then on the sat. Then this mon i went to doctor to confirm pregancy but urine was negative and so dr gave me a blood test and it was negative also. I tested again yesterday, again it was positive but slightly more faint than other 2. To make matters more confusing im not sure of how many weeks. Had normal period 1st of june byt then on the 27th of june i had slight bleed over about 4 days. But hardly any blood. I didnt pass any remarks because i was distracted with other stuff during that time. Second week of june i thought o had a virus or something as I was exhausted and sick. So that when i began to think maybe pregnant. I have 2 children 12 & 10 and then about 5 years ago i had a miscarriage. Im sorry if this is so long im just trying to give as much info as possible. Ive had no bleeding since end of june. I have slight cramping. Has anyone had the same and if so what was the outcome. Im really worried, g.p has it left at blood test is negative end of. Now she put it much more nicely and was very sensitive but thats kinda where im at. Confused and still feel pregnant.

I've read a lot of stuff online with people with same problems home tests saying positive and drs saying neg, try again in a few more days I've heard early response tests are better

Thanks for answering saz, I know even my doctor said chemist tests are more sensitive than theirs. But the negative blood test threw me and then not getting stronger positve on frer after a few days. I suppose im afraid ive miscarried again or i will but i feel fine and havent had any bleed other than the end of june, which i had just put down to early short period.

Do you have pictures of the tests? Sometimes indents/evap lines can look like positives.

lolalol · 29/07/2018 03:04

No I didnt take pictures of them, there was 2 pink lines in each test, only the result line was lighter than the test line. But they were all pink in colour. And then because of that i was shocked when blood came back negative. I wasnt too worried about the urine test at the doctors because that happened when I was pregnant with my youngest daughter. Again it was a frer test, had 2 pink lines. Went to doctor, he said test was negative although he thought he could see faint sign of positive and to return a week later. He didnt do bloods though. So when i went back test was positive. So i assumed same thing was happening this time round but the blood test was negative. I dont know which type of blood test she done though. I just wanted to get off the phone because I was gutted. We werent planning this pregnancy but as soon as I got the positive I started picturing telling my kids, the excitement etc and then suddenly it seems to be all over yet symptoms are getting stronger. When I miscarried before i had started losing symptoms a week or so beforehand but I thought I was just getting ready for second trimester but then bleedkng & cramping started. And no longer felt pregnant. I think thats why im feeling so bad is because Im not convinced that its over. I tried to get on with things today but symptoms too strong. Maybe they will decrease over next few days. Thanks for being willing to look at my poas though 😉

I had a negative urine test at A&E after a positive home test recently. My blood test came back positive but low, so I had to go back for a second 48 hours later. I would only have been just over 4 weeks, so very early.

Basically, the hcg (pregnancy hormone) doubles every 36-48 hours in the early stages. If the pregnancy doesn’t continue, it takes a while for the level to drop so you could still get a positive on a home urine tests. It also means that if there’s a big discrepancy between your result and how many weeks you are, they should be able to tell. If they only tested your blood once, it probably suggests your result was low enough to be conclusive for them.

It’s the hcg itself that causes symptoms, so also possible to feel them even if your levels are dropping, and still possible to get a positive on a home test. Unfortunately, you can’t take into account how dark a line is either, as other things such as your level of hydration can change that.

Really sorry. I hope that at least helps explain some things. I’d still speak to your doctor and get them to explain properly though.

Yes thank you for the info. I was possibly around 3 wks 3 days from last period (i think) when they tested my blood so not far off from when you got blood test.
I was hoping there was still a possibility it was too early for blood test but it doesnt sound like it tbh. Thanks for your msg and yes it does help cos it gave me an idea of hcg levels roughly around the same week as myself. I dont know was it qualitive or quantitative blood test, im sorry i didnt ask. If symptoms dont ease and no bleeding by 2 weeks time I'll go again and see dr. (That seems like a lifetime away)
Thanks again and I wish you all the best in your pregnancy.

Hmm. I think I possibly misunderstood your first post.

If counting from 1st June, you’d be 8 weeks by now so they should definitely be able to tell from a single blood test.

If from 27th June, you’d only be 4 now, so definitely a chance of it being too early to tell, especially without a comparison result. They weren’t very positive about my first reading and the GP said it was ‘very low’ but the doctor who called me back after the second test explained it all a lot better.

Do you have an early pregnancy unit you could try instead of the GP? They might be more helpful.

The waiting is awful, isn’t it? Sympathies.

lolalol · 29/07/2018 13:16

yea its the waiting or not knowing thats driving me nuts. And also im afraid to get my hopes up. The most annoying thing is we werent planning anymore and i was fine with that but all it took was a positive to show and i was picking names & looking at prams online😩 i know im a mental case😂 i dont know about early pregnancy unit but when i miscarried before the doctor in the hospital told me if I fell pregnant again to come back early to him but i was all over the place at the time and havent a clue of his name. And id have to go through g.p for referral and i doubt g.p will refer me just yet. I know myself I just have to wait.

Could you ask for a second blood test if you think you’re only 3 weeks?

Anyway, waiting will work too. Hope it goes ok.

lolalol · 29/07/2018 14:03

Yea i probably could, she was very nice. But I think ill just wait it out another few days anyway. I'll give an update whenever I have one.

Just an update, i started miscarrying 2 days ago. Im just out of hospital today, had added complication of a ruptured cyst, and also have another 5.3cm cyst that i didnt know about. I will have to go for scan shortly to see if i naturally expelled everything and then another one in a few months to see if they will do surgery for cyst.
