My partner is away for 3 weeks and I was due on my period while he was gone but when that didn't happen I took some tests, first two were just faint lines but yesterday and this morning I did 2 clear blue ones both super strong positives and the digital one said 2-3 weeks. I haven't told anyone yet and I want to wait until my partner comes home next week to tell him in person.

I have a hundred questions but what should I be doing right now? It come as a bit of a surprise to me because even though we had an open discussion that we were going to let nature take its course and if we got pregnant that was great news, this was the first time we'd done anything unprotected...I'm 25 but as this is my first pregnancy any advice would be greatly appreciated

At the moment you don’t really need to do much, tell your partner, stop drinking/smoking if you do. Start taking pregnancy vitamins (or at least folic acid and vit d). In a couple of weeks you could book in for a midwife appointment for 8 weeks. Congratulations!!

I went to the chemist today and asked about folic acid and which was the best to take and he said not to bother until I've been to the doctors because they check for family history etc to see if its necessary? I have no clue

Also I don't smoke or drink but I do drink a lot of monster energy drinks which I stopped as soon as I even suspected I might be pregnant. And thank you!

Congratulations Fairyoflight
It's normal to feel a bit overwhelmed. When I found out I was pregnant with Dd2 I was nearly 20wks to say it was a shock is a understatement😂😂.
Start taking folic acid.

Congrats OP! 😁 I just went to Sainsbury's and bought Seven Seas Pregnancy Vitamins then booked into GP (I hadn't registered yet.) Call your GPs on Monday to see if you can self refer or if they have to refer you to midwifes. Remember to reduce caffeine intake too ☺️

NapQueen · 28/07/2018 20:08

That was bad advice re the Folic acid. Take it.

Rest. Relax. Create a pinterest board for preggo stuff so you have a good outlet for your excitement.

Think about a nice way to share the news with DP/DH. I rang dh when he was on a work trip at a museum and told him over the phone. Wish id thought of a nice way to share the news.

Thank you everyone, it was the seven seas ones with 400 micrograms of folic acid I was looking at, should I get those tomorrow? It had all kinds of other vitamins in too.

I already have it planned for how to tell him when he gets home. This is going to be a big surprise for him aswell - slightly odd situation as we've been together ages and live together but only just had sex for about a week before he went away as I had some past issues to work through, we both very much wanted a family soon but I didn't expect to be pregnant after just 4 times of having intercourse. Overjoyed though, just a lot to take in and will be very glad when he's home!

I have another question, I work in a kitchen very long hours, I have 50 and nearing 60 hours a week in the coming weeks with just one day off in each - should I tell me boss sooner rather than later and get that changed or is it safe to work that much as long as i don't lift heavy things?

Yeah I took them. I would probably tell your boss soon because of the lifting and also kitchens can be hot and raising your core temperature too high can (sometimes) cause some problems with babies.
Have you had a look at the NHS website? It's great for information... I had it open nearly every day 😂

Congrats! Just to let you know, you add 2 weeks onto the digital tests so you are more like 4-5 weeks pregnant as it's dated from first day of your last period not date of conception (which digitals measure!). I do the same sort of work as you and told my boss straight away, I'd say it's quite important to as it's hard work at the best of times never mind pregnant and you should really be taking it easy on the heavy lifting etc.

Darkstar4855 · 29/07/2018 09:47

Congratulations! Don’t get a general multivitamin - get either a pregnancy-specific multivitamin or one that is just folic acid (or folic acid with vitamin D) as there are some vitamins that you need to be careful not to have too much of in pregnancy (vitamin A for example). The standard dose is 400mcg daily.

Celebelly · 29/07/2018 09:53

Yes, def get on folic acid without delay as it's most important in these very early weeks and presumably you haven't been taking it pre-conception. The Seven Seas ones are fine.

bexmountford1986 · 29/07/2018 17:26

On a digital 2-3 means 4-5 weeks its 2-3 weeks since conception
