Prescribed Cyclizine 50mg for sickness!?

Hi all,

I wondered if anyone else had an experience with taking these sickness med's!!?

I'm a little over 7 weeks and have been suffering really bad with sickness, to the point where it's a struggle to get out of bed and I nearly ended up in A + E the other night because I couldn't keep anything down... Anyway I spoke to my midwife who recommended me seeing the GP to get some anti sickness medication to help me feel better!

I went yesterday and he prescribed me Cyclizine 50mg tablets which I can take up to 3 x a day! I've never been a massive fan of taking medications when preganant so I'm freaking out this is going to affect the baby... 🤰🏻😩

Especially when you have a very old fashioned mum who likes to tell you about all the birth defects babies were born with back in the day after their mums took sickness tablets 🤦🏻‍♀️🙄

Needless to say it's stressing me out even more....

Would be greatful for any stories from others who have taken this medication or similar?

Many thanks in advance 😁🤞🏻 X

I take cyclizine, not pregnant though.
It does make me very groggy and unsteady so be careful if it affects you in the same way.

I took cyclizine and Ondansetron from about 9 weeks. Dc2 is almost 10 weeks old and is absolutely perfect.

I was prescribed cyclizine for my HG and it worked beautifully until I came out in an allergic reaction to it Sad. I was gutted as it seemed to really work.

I understand your concerns but medical professionals don't put pregnant women on medication lightly. HG can be very serious. Growing baby takes everything they need from you, but with severe sickness this can lead to malnutrition in the mother and especially toward the end can slow growth down.
I was regularly admitted for 24 hours of drips and monitoring and toward the end of (both) pregnancies was being monitored for slow down in growth. With 2nd pregnancy I was booked in for an induction when I went into spontaneous labour.

If you feel comfortable doing so, take 1 a day and see if it works.

The medication is absolutely safe for pregnant women. I am 12 wks and have been taking it for the last three weeks. It seems to have stopped being effective for me unfortunately but made a huge difference to start with! I only needed to take two a day. Hope it works for you.

I took it when I was pregnant. Worked really well.

Had this for first trimester morning sickness. Also had it for nausea in third trimester.

I took this medication for severe sickness whilst pregnant and now have a lively 6 1/2 DD.
