12 week scan booked in - but convinced I'm only 11 weeks!

Hi everyone. Had my booking appt with the midwives this week and they calculated me as 10 weeks 2 days - but I'm convinced I'm only 9 weeks 4 days (based on my slightly longer cycle). I explained my calculations but they stated they need to stick with their dates. They've now booked me in for my 12 week scan, but according to my calculations I'll only be 11 weeks 2 days. I don't want to go and find they can't do the relevant tests as I'm too early. Do I push my dates or just stick with it and go back if I have to?

I went for my 12 week scan and was 11+1, they can't do some measurements until 11+2 so I got booked back in for 11+6, hopefully they will be fine to do yours but like I say they just book you back in if not Smile

Same happened to me. I have very long cycles so going my LMP dates (which my midwife was determined to do despite me explaining it was definitely not correct!) I was 3 weeks further than I actually was. I was sent for a scan on what they thought was 13 weeks, I was actually only 10 so got a very quick scan that showed baby and measured length, then called back in 2 weeks for the full scan.

yikesanotherbooboo · 27/07/2018 16:23

It is better that a few women get scanned too early and have to come back than scans are done late at which point other tests can't be done accurately. Leave them to their system and be grateful.

Frazzled2207 · 27/07/2018 16:35

Look on the bright side you'll get your 12 week scan earlier than otherwise, which is almost a week less fretting (if you're anything like me). Hopefully that scan will show a nice healthy baby and just perhaps you'll have to go back another time, which is actually a good thing because you get to see your baby again.

I'd be more concerned if it was the other way round.

SophieSY · 27/07/2018 17:13

Yes - you are right! Better to be early than late! Thanks everyone!

I was 11+5 for my first scan. Didn't seem to make any difference. If there are any tests they can't do you'll just be asked to come back.

Also don't be so sure of dates. Before that scan I was convinced I was already 13 weeks.

cakesandphotos · 27/07/2018 17:26

I was 14 weeks for mine and fortunately didn’t want the testing done. Better too early!

gamerchick · 27/07/2018 17:29

It's just a dating scan anyway. I've always been pegged 2 weeks behind what was calculated in my pregnancies

Angelmiracle · 27/07/2018 17:31

This is same with me due to cycle length and a late conception day! However GP and midwife do not go outside of LMP and said dating scan would adjust dates if appropriate. I'm happy if enough. I'd be more than happy for an extra scan 😀

hammeringinmyhead · 27/07/2018 17:33

I had mine and I was 2 days too early (11+1 I think) so I had to go back 10 days later. It was great to have 2 scans tbh and very reassuring to see baby at 11 weeks developing. You might just about be far along enough at 11+ a bit anyway.

Celebelly · 27/07/2018 18:05

I was 11+2 for mine and they got everything they needed. She just said before the scan that if they couldn't they would rebook me in for a week's time.

Potkettleblack2 · 27/07/2018 18:07

My "12 week scan" pushed me back 8 days, so I was actually 10+6 (or 10+5 I can't remember). I loved getting that extra reassurance scan and then the 2nd scan 10 days later.

BlueBug45 · 27/07/2018 18:12

My 12 week scan was actually at 13+2 I knew the dates would be off as my cycle is irregular but they have to stick to some formula otherwise there would be no way of guessing when to scan.

DuggeeHugs · 27/07/2018 19:16

A cycle for me can be anywhere between 10 days and 6 months. My 12 week scan turned out to be 8+2. Given how sick I felt I was dismayed to think I had another four weeks before I might start feeling better. On the plus side, two chances to see DS was just lovely Smile

laurenluke2017 · 27/07/2018 19:36

I thought I was under at my 12 week scan and I was a week over! You'll be fine. I now am 28+2 weeks pregnant with a very wriggly little boy in their! Good luck my love you'll be fine. X

SophieSY · 27/07/2018 19:53

Thank you everyone. I realised my first post makes me sound really ungrateful and annoyed at the system - I'm not at all! It's my first pregnancy so still getting used to how these things work! Really appreciate all your responses - thank you

That's what MN is for - support!! You are welcome 😀

yikesanotherbooboo · 27/07/2018 20:51

And good luck

60sname · 27/07/2018 21:34

@sophieSY going against the grain here, I was called a week early due to my long cycles and managed to persuade them to push the appointment back so that I didn't have to come up with two lots of absences from / excuses for work.

But I was very sure of dates and had had a reassurance scan that meant I could 'prove' it, which might have been why they agreed to move the appointment back.

owl89 · 28/07/2018 11:22

I went for my 12 week scan thinking I was only 11 weeks. I was right so they booked me in again for a week later. I was just happy I got to see my baby twice Smile

Thamantha · 28/07/2018 13:20

My midwife thought i was 11 days further along than i thought i was. I told her i was not available for the first week when she wanted to put my forward for the twelve week scan, so had it the next week when i turnout out to be 11+2. Trust your instincts.

They said if i had been the week before then i would have needed to come back a second time. Luckily at 11+2 they could do all the tests they needed.
I have a long commute, and the hopsital is thw wrong side of where i live compared to my commute, so going to appointments either means taking a whole morning/afternoon/day off depending on the time or having a 2.5+ hour round trip plus the appointment time, so coming back a week later would have been very tricky to manage. I think if you ask to move it they will probaby be accomodating.

jeanzbeanz · 28/07/2018 15:34

I was in a similar situation, tried to tell the midwife that the date she set for the scan was too early but she just said "oh we'll stick with my dates for now". I was 11 weeks exactly when I had the scan so they had to rebook me for the nuchal testing. I went 10 days later for another scan and the testing, was so nice to see baby twice and amazing how much it had grown in 10 days! Am now nervously awaiting the test results...

Foodylicious · 28/07/2018 15:39

They are usually boomed between 11 weeks and 13+6 weeks so it really doesn't matter tbh
