Hi, sorry I am new to this so please bare with me.
I have just recently found out I'm pregnant, it wasn't planned at all as I was on the pill.
But I took the Clearblue conception indicator test and it said 3+ and seeing as my period was just over 3 weeks before (23-25 days.) I have no idea how this is possible. Has anyone had this experience?

Until you have a dating scan your due date is always based on the start of your last period. All these indicators do is give a rough idea based on the level of hormone detected which can differ depending on how concentrated your urine is.

Grimbles · 27/07/2018 10:35

Was it a normal period you had? It's possible that it was a breakthrough bleed and you got pregnant in your previous cycle. Unless you have short cycles anyway and ovukated earlier in your cycle.

Somethingaboutlilo · 27/07/2018 10:38

When you’re on the pill you don’t have true periods. You have bleeds because the break (assuming you’re on the combined pill) causes a fluctuation in hormones; it has nothing to do with ovulation. Unfortunately, the only way to know your due date is to have a dating scan. Alternatively, if you’ve miss 1 pill or vomited on a particular day, you’re likely to have conceived on one of the 7 days following; that is far from precise though but may give you a ball park idea.

Just to make things complicated those clearblue tests date differently from midwives anyway. Assuming you conceived 3 weeks ago you would be 5 weeks pregnant according to a midwife cos it goes from last period. Id take that result as a "lots of hormones definitely pregnant" and wait for a scan to date you more accurately.

Congratulations!

I took the test the day my period was due and it was in the afternoon. I know they're going by my last period but my periods have been off since having the implant removed at the beginning of March, they were still every 23-25 days but shortened from 7 days to 3 days and none of them have been heavy or anything like normal.

The only thing I can think of Grimbles is that I had Gastroenteritis in the middle of June but I didn't throw up with it lol. Have never missed a pill took it at 1pm on the dot everyday.

Something - I was on the mini-pill, combined pill does not like me lol

Bryonie - Thanks for the congratulations, its been a bit of a shock but I'm slowly getting my head around it and I'm happy about it as last year I was told I was highly unlikely to conceive again anyway!

The gastroenteritis may have caused some malabsorbtion of your pill but as Your hormones seem to be all over the place since the implant (very common) it would be really difficult to say when you conceived. Sometimes MWs will offer an early scan to check the date when you’ve gor pregnant on contraception. May be worth asking at your booking in?

JellyBabiesx · 27/07/2018 10:55

I didn't know that, I thought only vomiting was an issue. I have my booking in appointment with the Midwife on the 20th August, so I will ask then. I never had this issue with my first one they just sent me for the early scan anyway.
