Holding a torch to your tummy

Currently 31+3 and people keep telling me how they used to hold a torch to their tummy and baby would kick.

Anyone tried this? My LO doesn’t seem to react to this at all!

Worked for my friend, but nothing happened when I tried it myself. Baby didn't react to music either!

I tried it with my other kids and it never worked for me.

I get kicked enough so I haven't tried the torch. I suspect it only works if your baby is in some positions otherwise they can't see the light.

In regards to music if you are listening at normal volume you tend to need to play something with lots of strings. So modern music e.g. rock, metal which has lots of guitar works and classical with lots of violins, cellos etc works.

What position is your placenta? Mine were both anterior and only reacted to noise, not light

Sounds a little mean to be, poor baby. My dh keeps prodding ours to try to get a reaction, my thinking is that it's the only time in her life when she can just entirely be left alone to relax and grow, so she's entitled to be left to develop in peace.

Just talk to your baby, give your tummy a good rub to check-in.

No idea about the torch but ds1 used to "dance" when I put my headphones over my bump.

vampirethriller · 26/07/2018 10:16

Mine mostly moves when I eat or sit down. Sound doesn't do much!

dizzydaisies · 26/07/2018 10:26

Mine would go nuts dancing if I had something overly sweet. It was at Christmas so I had way too many Black Forest hot chocolates at Costa, and my little bump would have a proper rave!

Never tried a torch!

I did this, because I wanted to see in my tummy haha baby didn't react at all for me but now at term she loves it when I'm in the bath and I sing 😊

@questbellatreetop when HCP have a good feel my baby moves away. My baby moves a lot when their awake so there is no need prod.
