Hi everyone. This is my first post so please bare with me! I found out last week that I’m pregnant. My husband and I are so excited. It’s our first baby. We weren’t expecting the positive test so soon (two months of trying). Anyway, since Friday afternoon I’ve had cramping in my lower left hand side. It’s on and off and hasn’t got worse though I’m concerned it has been a number of days. I’m also getting pains in my lower back at times, on the same left side. I went to my EPU yesterday and had a blood test which had a reading of 600, not sure what that means? I have to go back tomorrow where they hope that that blood test will show the figure has doubled. I also had chlamydia about 10 years ago when I was 20. I’m hoping to hear from other mums about their experience. I have no other symptoms at this point. Thanks in advance xx

I'm 4 weeks pregnant too and I'm experiencing pinches and twinges occasionally. I assumed it was normal due to the uterus expanding? Don't really have any other symptoms either! Hope you have a happy and healthy pregnancy :)

takenitall · 25/07/2018 18:26

600 or 6,000

NicolaG12 · 25/07/2018 18:32

Thanks spadesofglory. Hope it goes well for you too. I’ve been so anxiois about it all, trying not to stress out! How do you relax? I’m worried that it seems to be lasting for so long. It hasn’t got any worse, pain still the same level as what it was and I’ve not had to take any paractomol to manage the pain.

Take it all - my midwife said 600 I’m sure. She did say it was within the limits she would expect to see.

I just had my blood levels checked after some bleeding at the weekend (I’m 5 weeks today).

My hcg (pregnancy hormone) was 97 at 4+3 and then 254 at 4+5. As the result doubled, they’re happy.

Initially, the A&E doctor said the level was ‘very low’ (my urine tear actually came back negative), which hugely stressed me out but when the Gynae doctor finally called me back after my second test, she said that the range of normal is really wide and it’s that doubling that they look for, not the number itself.

Hope this helps a bit!

My phone hates me. Urine test!!

takenitall · 25/07/2018 19:21

If it's in the limits that's really good
Its massively scary the first few weeks but once you get to about 9-10 you can scan and see if things are moving along
I panicked the entire time I was pregnant
My pregnancy itself was fine it was actually me who went into meltdown xx

I’d mention about the one sided cramping. It was something I had and they scanned for ectopic pregnancy (although at 5/6 weeks) as a precaution. I didn’t have it and it’s unlikely but worth letting them know.

Hi all, I wanted to update my post, as I’ve been reading other threads and the outcome hasn’t been clear on some. Unfortunately I miscarried last week. I’m gutted. The same cramping is back now on the left hand side though my scan said there was no issues. I’m hoping it is normal miscarriage pain but going to contact the epu in the next couple of days for a follow up

So sorry to hear of your miscarriage. I hope the cramping eases up for you soon and you get the reassurance you need from EPC. I suffered a
Misssd miscarriage a few months ago, I am pregnant again now but am so scared the same thing is going to happen again but I can only take one day at a time. I hope when you feel ready you will go on to have a healthy baby. Xx

NicolaG12 · 18/09/2018 22:44

Thank you very much. Yeah I hope it does. It’s just odd to me that I’m getting the same pains at the end that I did at the start. I’m scared that there is some long term damage. I will update when I speak to them. I hope everything goes well with this pregnancy for you, I totally understand how anxious you must be. X

@NicolaG12 what were the results when your hcg was measured? If it was going up erratically then apparently might indicate an ectopic...you should get yourself checked again in any event. When I had a miscarriage they measured my hcg to make sure it was going down and I also had to take pregnancy two weeks after to ensure it was negative. So sorry to hear about your loss.

Tryingtochillax · 19/09/2018 08:03

Of course you must be feeling a little concerned. It's definitely the right thing to get checked. Our bodies do crazy things, I have pains all the time throughout my ovulation and the week before which I never used to get before I was pregnant so have been back and forth to the Dr in case it isn't as simple as ovulation pains, I'm currently waiting for a pelvic ultrasound however now I'm pregnant again the pains seem to have stopped so perhaps it is as simple as ovulation so try not to think the worst, our bodies go through a lot even at the beginning stages and it may just be all settling back down. Fingers crossed for you xx

NicolaG12 · 19/09/2018 16:38

Thanks both. I had my hcg levels checked at the start, they were normal. I also had an early scan which ruled out ectopic. Hopefully we can try again in a few weeks x

That's all good news then. Fingers crossed things settle down soon. Xx
