Hi!! 40 weeks today - so over being pregnant. Especially in this heat and just want to meet my baby!
Have been having start / stop contractions for over a week which are keeping me up for 2-3 hours a night...

So... I've just had a sweep (ouch!!) - MW said I am 1cm dilated... had a bit of a bloody show within about 15 mins. Also baby's heart rate had increased afterwards so clearly niggled him or her!

What I'm hoping for is some positive stories of your sweeps to give me hope that I won't have another 2 weeks of feeling this uncomfortable! Anybody have good experiences they could share with me please? Grin

I had a sweep on Thursday at 38+1 and then my mucus plug started coming away that day. Nothing then over the weekend but my water broke at 2am yesterday morning. I am now however in the middle of the induction process because labour didn't start after waters going. so not sure if it's a positive story yet lol

If you are 40 weeks it shouldn't be long at all. I had a sweep at 40 + 2 and was 3cm. Went home expecting baby to come but it never happened. Had some bleeding afterwards and discomfort but I was induced the next day for complications. It's just a matter of time now don't worry :)

Both my labours started with sweeps, however I was very overdue both times (40+10 and 40+8).

I had a sweep and was similarly dilated. Didn’t seem to do anything for me but you have had a show and are having irregular tightenings so maybe you’re further on that I was haha! I ended up being induced at 40+11 but didn’t need anything other than the pessary, DD arrived 3.40am after having pessary placed at 11am previous morning!

Had a sweep at 2pm on the Saturday DS1 was born 2:45am the Sunday morning. Had a bit of a show after the sweep and midwife said I was about 2 cm dilated when she did it. I was 41 was at that point. Fingered crossed that you are on your way.

I had my sweep at 40+3 and I was 1cm. Baby came 1hour 5mins later x

lambdroid · 25/07/2018 06:03

I was already in labour when I had a sweep at 2cm. Mine took another 12 hours or so to rock up.

So, so glad I had it. My labour was fine, but about 36 hours start to finish and things definitely sped up after that.

Hospitaldramafamily · 25/07/2018 07:20

I had a sweep at 40+3, went into labour the following night.

Angelmiracle · 25/07/2018 07:41

I had a sweep at 40+5 contractions started next day baby born day after that!

WhatAnAbsolutePenis · 25/07/2018 08:01

I’ve had several sweeps and they did absolutely nothing.
With DS2 I was having mild contractions before the sweep and they stopped after the sweep.
With this baby, I’m not even considering it.

Went into hospital at 37+2 ish, doctor checked if my tightenings were having any effects.. was soft forward and 2cm dilated (but still long) so she gave me a sweep.
Two days of losing bloody mucus, and a night of back ache. Continued to lose very snotty (almost jelly like) stuff since. But it's a week later and I'm still pregnant.. went for a check up 4 days after and cmw said cervix is unchanged but wrote down my bishops schore are a 7.. my midwife is refusing to do and internal check or another sweep until I am 41 weeks :(

WhatAnAbsolutePenis · 25/07/2018 08:47

Why did they do a sweep so early HJkillas?

pumpkinmamma · 25/07/2018 08:54

I had a sweep on a Thursday at 40+2, lost a small amount of mucus plug and had some pain afterwards (nothing that a bath and some paracetamol didn’t fix!). Then nothing much for 6 days until waters broke at home, was induced the next day with the drip and baby was born that night. Midwife said I was about 2cm dilated at the sweep and my cervix was changing but ended up being induced because of my waters breaking and nothing else really happening!

Thanks everyone - update from yesterday ----

Had my sweep around 8.45 and contractions started almost instantly followed by bloody show. Went home, they intensified and were 4 mins apart - struggling to breath through them... couldn't talk / eat dinner etc. Went to birth unit around 7pm... lost a massive piece of plug (sorry) was about the size of a ping pong ball and brown / red.
Contractions continued to ramp up - now 2-3 mins apart - at around 11.30 got in the pool to try and ease the pain and boom... they stopped.
Managed to get some sleep from 12.30- 1.30 and at 2.30 decided to come home (via McDonald's Blush as I was so down and exhausted!)
Nothing again this morning except lots of my show coming away... all very frustrating. I didn't know that it could get that intense and then stop!! Xx

I'm not sure why they did a sweep so early but I went in again this morning, 38+3 and the doctor was happy for me to have another. So I'm gunna head out for a walk soon to try and make the most of it!

Got some more pains but not holding my breath after 5 hours of false labour yesterday 😒

Bishops score now a 9 so that's good :)

Mummaluelae · 25/07/2018 13:06

I think everyone is different. With my 2nd I had a s&s at 40+2 and they booked me in for another at 41+2 but had contractions and gave birth at 41+1
