6 week scan and no foetal pole (pic)

Hey ladies,

I had an emergency scan this morning due to some severe abdominal pain last night as A&E suspected ectopic.

Turns out its not ectopic (phew) but now I have another worry... I believe I am 6 weeks 1 day, but the nurse couldn't see a foetal pole on the scan.

Gestational sac measured 15.7mm and the yolk sac was present, but no baby.

I'm now panicking slightly as I had a miscarriage 6 weeks ago (got pregnant straight after with no period) where there was a blighted ovum with a gestational sac of only 5mm.

I know I could have ovulated a bit later cause of the miscarriage, but I'm scared 😞

Has anyone else had this? A scan at this stage with no embryo? How did it turn out?

Same as you I had a miscarriage and got pregnant straight away after no period in between I self referred for an early scan at what I thought was 6 weeks gestation but was only about 5 weeks and was told that when I go back for my 8 week scan all would be well.now my baby is nearly six years old and I’m now nearly 28 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby boy. U will be fine good luck X

I have had this with both my recent pregnancies. The fact there is a yolk sac is good (a sac and no yolk sac can still mean ectopic apparently I got told this time). Was your scan internal? Have they booked you in for a follow up?

Both this pregnancy and last I didn't see a heartbeat until 7 weeks. Previous pregnancy didn't have a happy ending for other reasons, I am now 6 months with this one and everything looks fine.

Good luck Flowers

Try not to worry. As you said, you aren't 100% sure of when you ovulated so may just be too early to see baby yet, have they rebooked you for a scan in a week or2? This would be what I'd be aiming for

I had a scan just before 6 weeks that showed only an empty sac. It was all fine, 6 weeks is often too early to tell.

I had something very similar (my scan was a bit later though) and sadly it didn’t work out well and mc at 12 weeks. But each pregnancy is different, it may be far too early yet and it sounds like the point of the scan was to check for an ectopic, not to date the pregnancy or listen for a heartbeat yet.

I think you’ve just got to trust your body, and wait and hope. Fingers crossed for you its not an easy wait x

Hi! I had a scan where all they could see was a sac. Went back 4 days later and there was a tiny little heartbeat. I was so upset the first time but it doesn’t always mean the worst. I have everything crossed for you. X

Thanks ladies ♥

After the last miscarriage I just feel so on edge about everything, and just really want things to work out.

I have a reassurance scan booked in 11 days (it was booked before all this - the scan today was an emergency one and wasn't planned). The next 11 days are going to be torture. 😣

I had a scan just before I was 6 weeks and they could only see the pregnancy sac and yolk sac which they said was a good sign and I went back for my follow up this week just before I was 9 weeks and there was a heartbeat 💗 got my fingers crossed for you x
