I'm 39+4 And I just had a weird "release of liquid". When I went to sort myself out there was a LOT of clear mucousy gunky stuff (bit like snot, sorry) and then a thicker bit that was very slightly pink.
I'm assuming that's my plug?

Is that the same as a "show"? Or is that something else?

I don't think my water has broken yet

Got dull ache in my lower back and baby won't stop moving.

It can still take ages for things to start happening tho can't it?

I take it I wait till water breaks and I have contractions before I call triage?

This is my first and my midwife is only available Tuesday's 9-4 so can't ask her what happens.

I'm due to go out later today, would you cancel if it was you?

Sorry for all the questions. Not had any sleep at all tonight because of restless leg and now my mind is on overdrive.

Thanks!

Sounds like it! Mine went basically exactly the same way as you. I waited until contractions started properly and called triage just to let them know.

My advice would be to stay as relaxed as possible and stay at home as long as you can, I went in too early and it was a total pain having to go home and come back again! Good luck, hope it all goes smoothly for you.

MrsBartlettforthewin · 21/07/2018 07:53

Sounds like the start of things though you might want to get checked if you have leaked some waters or not ( all my waters went just before the baby was born so no experience of them going before contractions)

Try to eat and get some rest as when things kick off you will need that energy.

Good luck .

It’s not usually clear, in my experience. It’s green coloured and tinged with blood and incredibly thick.
It doesn’t tend to ‘run out’ it kind of wipes away. Lots of wipes. More wipes.
It feels like it’s never gonna stop.

Nonetheless, that’s just my own personal experience.

If you’re brave you could google image it.

JustVent · 21/07/2018 08:00

Sorry didn’t reply to your bottom bit.

No I wouldn’t triage. Mucous plug, if that’s what it is, can mean nothing. It can indicate that you’ll go into labour in 2 weeks.
I would definitely go out.
2 weeks is a long time to stay in.
Hopefully it wont be two weeks!

boomboo · 21/07/2018 08:30

Sounds like the start of something. As other posters have said stay as relaxed as possible. For both my labours my waters went literally before I started pushing. Good luck and sending hugs Smile

jellomello · 21/07/2018 11:56

My plug goes about 2 hours before baby arrives :
;-)

I'm quick! Contractions well established by then (again, fast) and waters go half an hour or so before baby.

But there is no rhyme nor reason with labour so your guess is as good as mine!

Angeliki159 · 21/07/2018 20:40

Lost more plug earlier (about 5pm) and just had another small "gush" of water. (8.30pm)
Currently doing a pooling test to see if that helps work out what's going on.

REALLY don't have the energy to have a baby right now. And I'm properly scared!

If you think you're losing water please just ring up triage. If they are happy to leave you until not ing that's perfect but hey may just want to check you over and note the time your waters started going.

Mine went iwith an almighty gush so there was no mistaking it but plenty of people lose it in dribbles or smaller gushes. I think you have around 24 to establish labour then they will want to speed things along to be sure you don't get an infection X

Good luck either way xx

Hjkillas · 21/07/2018 22:53

Second thoughts if your doing a pooling test maybe you're already at triage? Sorry baby brain 😋

Angeliki159 · 21/07/2018 23:06

I hadn't gone to triage yet I was just testing to see what happened.
Lost more liquid after the pooling so called and was sent to the midwife unit.
Not my waters.
They checked with a speculum which really bloody hurt (doesnt normally) and made me bleed and cramp.
Now I'm really worried about the birth. I don't think I can handle it. I'm terrified :(

Do you have a partner with you, or someone else you could talk to about how you feel?

If you're worried about pain then you can ask for an epidural or other pain relief if you prefer. Is it pain, or is it another aspect of the birth that's worrying you?

MrsBartlettforthewin · 21/07/2018 23:14

Oh lovely you will handle it. Thanks
Do you have a plan or are you more of a go with the flow? If it becomes too much during labour have the drugs. All that matters is that you and the baby are healthy at the end not if you did it on a single puff of g&a. Plus you'll be surprised at the inner strength you'll find you have.

Hope you are getting some rest and the cramping has stopped.

Angeliki159 · 21/07/2018 23:22

Thanks. Been sobbing all the way home from the hospital. Don't know if it's because I'm really really tired (only managed to sleep from 8am to 10am. Didn't get a single min during the night) or if I'm really frightened. Prob a combination of the 2.
I'm scared of the whole thing, the unknown, the pain, the actual sensation of birthing a baby, (I know its daft) but the embarrassing bits like people looking at my foof... I could go on.
I just don't think I'm strong enough for all this.
My husband is with me and looking after me but we are both equally clueless as to what's going on/what happens.
He is my lifeline. But in situations like this neither of us know what to do.
Sorry. Just having a bit of a meltdown :(

Oh bless you, it really is going to be okay! Have you had thoughts about what pain relief you might like to try in labour? I ended up using none and my baby had a big ol' noggin! If you told me I was gonna birth a baby with no pain relief last year I would have laughed you out of the room and then probably wet myself because pelvic floor 😂 but now I genuinely think I could do it all over again! The pain just seems so short lived in the grand scheme of things!

GrumpyGoose · 21/07/2018 23:34

The embarrassment I get, I'm a bit of a prude but you just don't care in labour. When I got in the pool I was adamant previously I was going to wear at least a vest. Then got to said pool and just stripped like "ta-dah!"

AssassinatedBeauty · 21/07/2018 23:37

It will be tiredness and all the other emotional stuff that comes with being pregnant. Try to get some sleep however you can, and don't give yourself a hard time for feeling upset.

TeddyIsaHe · 22/07/2018 09:18

How are you feeling this morning op? Hope you managed to get some rest Smile

Hjkillas · 22/07/2018 09:47

Hope you managed to get some rest. How you feeling today?

Angeliki159 · 23/07/2018 11:53

Managed to get some good sleep yesterday and treated myself to a McDonald's to try to cheer me up :)

Still insanely terrified about birth but trying to ignore the big "birth" thing and break it down to smaller chunks so I can try to deal with it. It's really hard tho.
Still sore and bleeding from the speculum so women be getting a sweep at my appt tomorrow. Can't bear anyone faffing about down there at the moment!
Due day is tomorrow.
I was convinced baby would be super early!
The anticipation of what's gonna happen is killing me.
Half of me just wants it over with. Half of me wants baby to stay in forever!
If that makes sense!

Angeliki159 · 23/07/2018 11:54

*So won't be getting a sweep
Not women...
Clearly I'm still tired lol

Makes perfect sense! This is my second so I know what to expect and even I am nervous x
