Womb hard at 20 weeks

I've notice my womb gone hard twice this week. First was after sex, it felt hard and tightened down. Again today, was in a bit of an odd position on the sofa and when I sat up, it felt hard and contracted, IYSWIM. Doesn't hurt at all and went away after a minute or two. Should I be worried? This is my first baby so nothing to compare to.

Braxton Hicks. Practice contractions of the uterus.

Thanks, is it a bit too early for this? Should I ring the labour ward?

No not too early, perfectly normal and baby is not is any danger. They’re actually a good thing.

Thank you both. When do I worry? The idea of contractions now has me in a bit of a state, tbh Confused

It's not a labour contraction. It's a tightening of the womb muscles. Totally normal calm down.

You don't worry unless they are properly painful and don't stop when you have a bath/lie down. Braxton Hicks are normal and nothing to be concerned about.

SoyDora · 19/07/2018 20:40

You would worry if they’re painful and get closer and closer together, and don’t let up.

Thank you all for the reassurance.
