Hi everyone. I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma when I was 18, and I'm 33 now. DH and I have been together since 2012 (married in 2017) and were told that there was a high chance I wouldn't be able to conceive. I found out this week that I'm pregnant after trying for the last 7 months. I don't know what to expect from this pregnancy, and I'm really worried about it. I haven't told anyone yet apart from DH, and I'm not sure how to go about the news. Has anyone else became pregnant under similar circumstances and how were things for you?

Wow congratulations to you. No personal experience but don't panic, suggest you book yourself in with a gp who understands your history, it might not be necessary but you might get an early scan to check all is well.

Thank you! I’m definitely going to see my GP and hopefully he will have some advice for me. I honestly didn’t think it was going to happen so I’m very happy but it’s still very early (at least I think)

I think I’m going to definitely have an early scan to ease the worries I have, because my body has definitely let me down before and I’ve never been pregnant.

I have a friend who had Hodgkin's and was told she was unlikely to conceive. She now has four healthy and wonderful children. Best of luck to you. I hope your story turns out as happy as hers.

My mum had Hodgkin's Lymphoma at the same age as you. She'd just had a baby the year she was diagnosed.
She turned 60 this year and went on to have three more healthy children. I'm the youngest at 26 and she is still healthy and strong. The doctors told her she wouldn't be able to conceive easily. A huge congratulations on your pregnancy! Flowers

Thank you! I’m glad to hear other women had a similar experience and everything went fine. Of course every pregnancy is different but it definitely eases my mind. I’ve been to see my GP and he advised me to book the early scan for next week so I did. Still very nervous and hoping there will be no issues, but best to take precautions. I’m excited to be pregnant for the first time, even though it doesn’t feel real yet.

I also managed to tell the news to my mum who I’m very close to, and she was very happy for me because she knows how difficult it has been. For now we won’t be telling anyone else apart from DH’s parents and my dad

Hi HariboIyCrack! It’s good to hear your experience of pregnancy went smoothly and it definitely gives me hope. Cancer is a lot of years behind me and I’m definitely past it, but I can’t help but have some anxiety when it comes to my
body because of it. I hope you’ll be able to figure it out. Things seem all good so far, and my early scan is on Tuesday!

Hiya, I had Hodgkin lymphoma was diagnosed in 2009 and had my first baby in 2012. Pregnancy was fine they monitored me closely as It was so soon after chemo they had to check things like my heart to see if it was coping with the extra work but no problems at all. Currently pregnant with no2 and again fine so far no extra monitoring as it was so long ago. Was checked over by consultant who was happy to make me low risk. The only thing I think for me personally is my body has never been the same since chemo so things like pregnancy tiredness absolutely floors me! Just generally my body struggles sometimes and I need a couple of says just to rest but other than that no issues! Hope this helps x

How was your scan Lea?

LeaWings · 05/08/2018 21:47

It’s been a while since I posted! That’s so good to hear TeaLover and I’m glad things worked out for you! Everything with babies (yes, twins!!!) is well and I’m due at the end of February. I’ve been really tired and pregnancy isn’t being too good to me, but I’m so happy and grateful I was able to get pregnant, yet alone with two. Everyone is very supportive. Carrying two, I’m already starting to show and I’m extra cautious.

Thank you Angel! ❤ That’s a great way to see it and I’ll definitely use that as my motivation.
