Hi all

I am in the very early stages of pregnancy (only 4 weeks!) and have developed a really bad throbbing toothache. It started yesterday and the pain is affecting the whole of the left side of my jaw and heads up to my ear.

Unfortunately my dentist won’t see me until Monday. So far I have been taking only one paracetamol tablet at a time but it’s really not helping much with the pain. It took us 14 months to conceive so I feel quite anxious about doing anything that might harm the pregnancy. However, I’m finding the pain quite unbearable.

Does anyone have any tips for pain relief during pregnancy? Is it safe to have paracetamol pretty much every 4 hours?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Paracetamol is safe and you should take the full dose.

I feel your pain! I'm 11+4 and my toothache keeps swapping sides of my jaw.
Normally I'd take 2 paracetamol+2 ibuprofen, every 4 hours, even taken a tramadol once just so I could go to sleep (it worked, felt like magic!)

However now.. i've read you can't take more than 8 paracetamol in 24 hours? Which I'm sticking too, i'm taking 2 just before I leave for work at 7AM, 2 at about 1/2pm after my lunch and then another 2 just before bed at 9/10pm, the pain does subside but its still naff. As daft as it sounds brushing my teeth helps (even though the toothpaste makes me nauseous :( ) hahah
Hope you feel better soon :P
