What's wrong with me?

I'm 34 weeks today with my first babe. Still working full-time at a desk job but am working from home today. Go on mat leave in a couple of weeks.

I've been getting more tired which I'm aware is common in the latter stages but today is absolutely hellish.

Yesterday, I felt as though I had a cold coming on: tired, sore head, groggy etc. But today I am absolutely floored. I am so lethargic. I had to cancel my antenatal class as I'm only managing to get out of bed for the toilet or to have food. My head is foggy, my body is heavy and I feel awful. Still groggy too.

Is this normal?

Its very common in the third trimester but you could also be coming down with something, maybe a UTI, again, very common in third trimester.

WHAT91 · 17/07/2018 14:23

Thanks for your reply Wellthisisunexpected. I have been peeing a bit more. Do you know, is it the docs or midwife I'd speak to about this?

I was also going to say urine infection. This happened to me when I was 36 weeks pregnant. I took a urine sample into my gps and asked them to dipstick it and it came back positive for an infection. Hope you feel better and good luck with your baby Thanks

Wellthisunexpected · 17/07/2018 15:35

GP usually. Take a sample with you.

WHAT91 · 17/07/2018 17:01

So I went to the docs who checked my sample and said there were no signs of a urine infection but prescribed anti biotics nonetheless. I haven't got the prescription as I don't want to unnessecarily take them.

I just don't feel right. I have wee pangs and pains that I haven't been getting but he reckons it's just all part of being pregnant. It was all going so well until I hit 34 weeks 😔

I borderline passed out on Sunday. Arms and legs weighed a tonne just lay there catching my breath for 30 minutes.
I was on absolute panic like wth was that all about!! Went to doctors and he said "you have an explosive urinary infection" I only had my pee tested a couple of days ago so it came out of nowhere!!
I would keep an eye on how you feel and 100% get urine checked again if you still don't feel right. Or get the docs to send it to be cultured so you know for sure.

I hate taking antibiotics, this time I've got some actimel to have alongside as I got gastro last time due to having no good bacteria left..

Hope you feel better soon Flowers

WHAT91 · 19/07/2018 22:33

Sorry to hear that, Hjkillas. I'm so glad you got to the bottom of it and hope you get better really soon Bear

I'm really confused about what I'm experiencing. I've got sharp shooting pains in my groin, sometimes hurts after peeing and I'm feeling a lot of pressure and twinges from my pubis upwards. To me, it feels like a urine infection even though the doc said there was nothing in my pee. But at 34 weeks pregnant, could this just be general aches and pains?

Do you know what your iron levels are like?

Thetimehascometo · 19/07/2018 23:54

I had my urine tested in the morning and then later that day got admitted for reduced movements, urine was tested and suddenly I had a urine infection. Madness! What did your gp say when you told him your symptoms?

Mrstobe90 · 19/07/2018 23:59

Definitely sounds like an infection! I'd go to the walk in centre and ask for another dip test. They can come on so fast.
It may be worth starting those antibiotics!

Hjkillas · 20/07/2018 01:33

I went to get checked for something else at hospital and they said my urine was clear!! Madness. But I'm going to continue taking my antibiotics anyway, urine is obviously not consistent in potency. Worth a recheck? Xx

Graphista · 20/07/2018 02:07

Bear in mind dip tests can't test for everything. Dr wouldn't have prescribed antibiotics if they didn't think they were necessary.

However - and I don't wish to alarm anyone, but I had what I thought was a cold in late pregnancy with dd. Headache, stuffy blocked feeling, painful sinuses. Then I was admitted a few weeks later and put on bed rest for pre-eclampsia. While on the ward I got talking to another mum and she was on her 5th, she noticed my nasal speech and said she'd had same in this and previous pregnancy and she felt it wasn't made clear to women that such symptoms COULD indicate high blood pressure. I had dd and the 'cold' literally vanished as soon as I was no longer pregnant.

Since, I've spoken to other mums about this and more than a few had similar experiences. Certainly wouldn't hurt to have midwife check your bp.

WHAT91 · 20/07/2018 12:10

Thanks everyone for taking the time to respond.

Doc said that there's was nothing in urine but would send it to get tested but he reckoned it just sounded like standard pregnancy complaints...

Going to start taking the anti biotics I think. I have a midwife app next week so will take my list of ailments with me and hopefully she can give me the once over.

Think it's all taking me by surprise because I've had such a smooth pregnancy until now.

It could be your iron levels, if they're low you will be really lethargic! The pains could very well be baby engaging into your pelvis and causing strain on ligaments. Everything tends to stretch out and slacken off in the third trimester ready for labour! Just take as much rest as you need! Thanks
