Mould in bedroom

Hi,

I am 23 weeks pregnant and have only just noticed a patch of black mould on one of the walls when we moved some storage boxes. It is about a meter squared. I am hormonal and emotional...but this has really worried me in terms of could that have done any harm to the baby? Google has NOT helped! I know having mould around you is never good but I am worried about the effect on a fetus. Has anyone else had this whilst pregnant?

I lived on a narrow boat when pregnant with DS (and for a year after he was born)

On a boat, you get mouldy bits all over the place in winter, mostly due to condensation.

I cleaned it as best I could, but there was always a bit around somewhere.

We now live in a very old single glazed house, with mouldy window frames (no matter how often I treat them).

He is absolutely 100% fine. It’s not ideal, of course, and do your best to treat it, but a single patch of mould isn’t going to hurt a baby in the womb.

It's very likely condensation due to the storage boxes being too close to the wall.

When I moved into my home the main bedroom had mould on one part of a wall. The surveyor said it was damp but everyone else who looked at it realised there had been a badly fitted cupboard there, the wall outside was intact and there were no drain pipes or anything on the outside of the wall, so concluded it was condensation. I wiped it off with bleach and water and it has never came back there even though I have had condensation problems since.

In your case get your OH or someone else to clean the wall for you, and just ensure you never ever put anything close to that wall.

Mould and mildew remover is about 99p and it works wonders on black mould!!
I wouldn't worry about what it has done so far as it was covered.. but just get someone else or wear gloves and ventilate very well because it's like bleach on steroids! Scrub the wall and I would paint over it. Just make sure you have adequate ventilation (windows on night vent or dehumidifier) and it should stay away x
