Early gender scan-Is it really a girl?

We had an early gender scan just over a week ago. Some of the pictures look girly, some look boyish I’m so confused! What do you think?

I've always wondered what the point of these scans are. No offence to you OP it's up to you whether you have a scan or not, but they're not as reliable that early on, people always question them and wonder whether the sex is correct, I know two people where they've been wrong so could well be a boy! Looks like a girl to me but you may well find you get a multitude of answers on here.

I know everyone will have different opinions on these scans but just curious to see what everyone else thought. It was nice opportunity to see our baby again happy and healthy especially after waiting nearly 4 years for him/her

I see the issue with this one OP. In the first picture I can see 3 lines and then the second I can see something almost sticking out slightly. Baby isn’t laying in a great position really. With my early scan it was obvious. But these sonographers don’t usually give you can answer unless they’re pretty certain x

SoyDora · 17/07/2018 07:41

That’s not a very clear early scan. We had one last week and it is very very clearly a boy. Had one in my last pregnancy that was very clearly a girl.
Yours looks like a girl in the first pic, the second one looks like it’s a bad angle. How sure did the sonographer sound?

PrincessPear · 17/07/2018 08:22

That’s a girl. My son had an obvious willy from 16 weeks lol, that’s a girl with a bad angle in the second photo.

EmmaJR1 · 17/07/2018 08:52

I had an early scan and was told the SEX of my baby was male... 20 weeks suddenly the baby has a labia and is female!

Luckily I didn't pay for a SEXING scan so I wasn't out of pocket - I paid for full nuchal screening because my baby was in an awkward position at the NHS one.

Have a Harmony test then you’ll know for sure by about 11 or 12wks. No risk to baby and 99.999% accurate.

Emma198 · 17/07/2018 09:01

@Emma whether you like it or not they're called gender scans, that's not just a word OP has decided to use so wind your neck in.

@MrsCrumbtious looks like a girl! I can see what you mean though, how long until your anomaly scan?

SoyDora · 17/07/2018 09:16

EmmaJR1 the OP is just using the word that the vast majority of the companies who offer this service use... we had a ‘gender scan’ at the weekend, it was called a gender scan on their website and in all the literature. So probably best to take it up with the companies!

And also costs about £400 Smile

How far along are you?

I've just had mine at 17+5 and it was quite clear. The photos you have posted don't really look like they're from the best angle.

We were told that the scans are more accurate from 15 weeks, as that's when the genitals start to form. What did the sonographer say?

Hjkillas · 17/07/2018 10:01

Girls can be mislabeled, boys not as much.
I would just ask them to give you a second opinion on the sex during your anomoly scan. I was sure my girl was going to grow boy bits but at a 32 scan it was still like a little hamburger 😂
Guess you never 100% know until you see it in the flesh.

Mousefunky · 17/07/2018 10:20

We were told it’s easy to mistake girls but not boys, it’s very obvious when it’s a boy.

MrsCrumbtious · 17/07/2018 19:02

Thanks for your feedback (most of which was helpful, who would have thought the phrase ‘genital scan’ could trigger some people 😂)
Anyways for those that we’re asking I was 16+5 when I had this scan and the sonographer said “I can’t see a willy so it looks like a girl”. I’ve attached a couple more photos but hoping our 20 week scan will give us a more clearer idea what flavour this bean is ☺️

I’m obviously no expert, but I don’t see the 3 lines that you would usually see if it’s a girl (if someone else can feel free to point them out to me!)

I’m sure they’ll be able to tell you more at your 20 week scan, everything will be a bit more developed by then :)

SoyDora · 17/07/2018 19:39

Ours was at 15+2 and the boy bits were very, very obvious. The sonographer even pointed out the outline of his testicles.
I’d wait until the anomaly scan and see if they can see anything then!

SoyDora · 17/07/2018 19:40

Sorry I meant 16+2
