Alcohol binge 4 weeks before knowing I was pregnant

I found out I was pregnant 2 days after my missed period, I knew something was up because I'm always regular so I did a test which was positive. I was on holiday when I found out, but had been drinking quite alot of vodka mixers and cocktails throughout the day and had one one big night out 2 days before my missed period where I got drunk? Could I have harmed my baby? What are the chances? I feel so guilty, just didn't think I was pregnant as it has come to a surprise to us both! I would have been just under 4 weeks when I drank alot

I did the same. I got drunk 3 times in the two weeks between conception and my missed period and I was very worried. The midwife actually laughed when I told her! It’s very very common I think.

That early I think it’s all or nothing. For most of that two weeks the embryo hasn’t implanted in your womb lining and you don’t share any blood supply. If you damage the cells enough to have an effect, they don’t implant and your period comes as normal.

For what it’s worth I’m 36 weeks now and everything has been and looks to be perfectly fine and normal.

Op don't worry this is so common. The night before I found out I was pregnant I got SMASHED and was still drunk / hungover the next morning when I found out. I had also drank moderately in the weeks before this. Stopped as soon as I found out (I was 5 weeks then). I now have a very healthy bright and bubbly 7 month old.

Best thing you can do is relax and start eating well and taking pregnancy multivitamins.

Remember the baby has its own yolk sack during the first trimester anyway.

Congratulations !!

Hi. I was in your exact position about 2.5 years ago. I was SO upset about it...had no idea I was pregnant, it was December and I was drinking more than I usually would as had family visiting and had gotten a promotion plus Christmas parties etc. I spent so long researching online (I mean seriously obsessive here) and really there is nothing to worry about that early a stage. But I did anyway....wish I could go back in time and enjoy that lovely time instead of stressing. Anyway everything turned out absolutely fine and had my little boy who was perfectly healthy! Everything will be fine OP, wishing you a straightForward pregnancy!! Xx

I read somewhere that until 6 weeksish there is no shared supply, as such whilst not ideal, it's pretty much ok.

So many people don't find out until 4/6/8 weeks and continue to drink, smoke etc until they find out. I really wouldn't worry too much OP.

OP apparently it's the second half of the first trimester you need to be worried about and most women have morning sickness by then which prevents them drinking. However even then it isn't conclusive either way.

I had the same situation... went to a Christmas party (had a negative test earlier in the week when my period was late and assumed it would be there in a day or so) and had an absolute blinder. Found out I was pregnant while still hungover.

My now-5-year-old is healthy and wonderful, and possibly even gifted (haven't had formal testing).

Please try to relax and enjoy your pregnancy. My doctor told me it happens to lots of women, and I was reassured by having two or three friends who had the same thing happen, and I could already see their children were fine.

I guess that makes sense, thank you for the reply it's reassuring to here others have done the same and it's not just me! it's turned into such a worry

Like others have said, I did the same with DD1 and the midwife laughed when I told her and said it's really common. I've actually just done the same with my second pregnancy oops! Blush
