I am currently 25, soon to be 26, and my partner and I are getting married in autumn this year. We have been together 9 years now and are ready to start discussions about having a family.
My partner would love a big family (as many as 4/5) but I worry that I am too old!?
I would like to wait a few more years until I am a bit further along in my career.
Would 28/29 be too late to start having children if we wanted 4/5? I am really panicking that it is too old!

Thank you all for your responses in advance :)

There are zero guarantees. I saw a statistic that said you were 90% likely to be able to have three without any intervention if you started at 23. But then you get those families that have 20 kids!!

I had my first at 29, second at 30 and now pregnant with my third at 33. I could probably squeeze another couple in if I wanted (I don’t!).
In reality it’s an impossible question to answer. You may conceive easily multiple times, you may have fertility issues and struggle to conceive even 1. You might have 1 and decide you don’t want any more!

I think the trouble is that a lot of my friends had children at 20/21 and are now scaring me a bit and telling me to get on the bandwagon before it's too late!
I think I just wanted to know there is hope after 25! Grin

I am 30, 12 weeks pregnant with my first and managed to do that whilst on the pill, but my family do seem to be super fertile. So mine hasn't declined at all, but as pp said, no one can say as everyone's bodies work differently!

Plus There is no guarantee I would fall pregnant again so easily. But I also know plenty of women who have had their first kids from 36+ and had no problems, so you'll just have to give it a go!

Had my 1st at 27, 2nd at 30 and I'm pregnant now with twins at 31 so I'll have had 4 in just over 4 years!

I'm also wondering how long the average time is to get pregnant?
I know some people will get pregnant on first try.
Some people may take up to a decade!
But how long do most people take?
Sorry if these are really stupid questions!

Well it took 13 months to conceive my first, second conceived on the pill and while bf-ing, third conceived first month of trying. So again, no real rhyme nor reason!

My sister has 4. She had her first when she was 20, and then the oldest of her latest 3 was conceived when she was 34 and born when she was 35. She then had another 2 after that.

A lot of it depends on your individual fertility. You could start at 16 but still struggle, or start at 40 and have one after another.

I don’t think you’ll be too old and 28/29 :)
