Bleeding in pregnancy

I've had a bleed at 13 weeks. Baby ok on scan but am terrified of it happening again and what it means. Does anybody have any positive experiences of bleeding in pregnancy?

None so far in this pregnancy, but in my first pregnancy i had a big bleed at 6 weeks - properly terrifying with clots and everything. I rocked up at a&e in tears, assuming a miscarriage. They sent me to an epu for a scan which saw a heartbeat and everything fine - apparently small pockets of blood can just form randomly sometimes, and all come out at once. Pregnancy continued uneventfully after that, although they did warn me that if it had happened once it might happen again. Hope that helps Smile as i remember how scary it was.

It does, thank you x

I had several minor bleeds while I was pregnant. No idea why, and the baby was absolutely fine. I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well!

SaltyLemons · 15/07/2018 08:37

Thank you, this is really helping.

I bled at 8 weeks. The scan showed baby was fine. It was actually due to me having a heart shaped womb and the lining shedding from the bit the baby wasn't in. I'm 20 weeks now and all good.

First pregnancy: bleed at 6 weeks, 10 weeks, and 15 weeks. Red, spotting. No cause found, baby was fine.

Second pregnancy: constant brown discharge from 6 weeks. Miscarriage.

Third pregnancy: chemical pregnancy

Fourth pregnancy: constant brown discharge. Miscarriage.

Fifth pregnancy. Twin pregnancy. Bleed with clots at 7 weeks. Terrified me but turned out to be a small sub chorionic hematoma. Continued for four days and both twins are okay.

I’ve bled in all my pregnancies OP, with several outcomes. It’s not always bad.

Thank you. It's stopped now but I'm terrified of it restarting - the whole thing has left me in a bit of a state Confused

I had bleed (bright red blood) at 8 weeks, apparently implantation bleeding is a thing (which no-one bloody mentioned!)! Now 32 weeks and all seems fine (touch wood). Hope all is ok for you, just take it easy and look after yourself xx

SaltyLemons · 16/07/2018 14:30

Thank you - i think im a bit late for an implantation bleed but I did have one at about 2 weeks so v early on

Did they say why you were bleeding Salty?

At around 6-8 weeks I had a small bit of brown spotting that was intermittent for around 3 days , but didn't think anything of it (or tell anyone!)

At 18 weeks I had bad abdominal pain that lasted over 24 hours. I got a bit worked up over this (I don't think it helped that it started at around 2am and I was knackered). My sister told my partner to phone the maternity assessment unit and I went in to get checked out. Had scan, urine test etc all was fine.

2 days after this I got heavy brown spotting and a clot, phoned up for advice and was told to go in again to get checked out. They had a look (not at all nice!) and couldn't see anything to be concerned about.

3 days after this I had a massive bright red discharge that totally freaked me out, so back in I went. All OK again (but they couldn't find a heartbeat for ages, and that was a horrible feeling!).

They think it was related to the fact that I have cervical erosion (and a fibroid!). I had red bleeding the day after as well but have had nothing since, touch wood.

At my 20 week scan everything was good (as another thought was perhaps my placenta was too low), and the sonographer commented on how lovely and clear the images were (I had drunk about 2 pints of water and was bursting for a wee at this point!).

If at all concerned always phone for advice or pop into your local assessment unit. The peace of mind is totally priceless.

Bled for the first three months of first pregnancy, he’s currently 4 years old sat next to me eating a sandwich. Good luck to you and I hope you don’t have to suffer this again x

SaltyLemons · 16/07/2018 14:38

Thanks @Ebeneser . They couldn't find a reason but it was out of hours so not a very detailed scan. I'm seeing a consultant later in the week and am hoping they'll scan me then to try to find a cause. I've also booked a private scan in between. It's had a bad affect on my mental health and I'm a bit of a weeping mess stewing over all the worst possible outcomes. I just didn't get much info at the hospital so feel like I'm in limbo - they kind of left me with 'wait and see'

I had a big bleed at 13 weeks (like a heavy period). It lasted around 5 days and was made worse by doing a lot of walking or lifting (I just took it very easy for a few days). A scan revealed that the baby was fine. My pregnancy was uneventful and the baby is now 4.7 years old!

SaltyLemons · 16/07/2018 14:40

Wow @InDubiousBattle that's great to hear. That's just what my bleed has been like. Thank you Thanks

And @lilyblue5 Thanks Really great to hear such positive outcomes

With DC2 I had a bleed at 13 weeks. US showed all was fine. Was told sometimes there are non specific bleeds at around the 3 month mark. DC is 2 now. All fine. Xx

SaltyLemons · 16/07/2018 14:46

Thanks @Froglette16 That's so interesting. It's mad that they don't know and can't tell us why this might be!

Yes, I bled intermittently from 5 weeks until about 6 months as I had a subchorionic haematoma. It was a risk to the embryo in the early weeks but became less worrisome and more of an inconvenience as time went on. It's unsettling, but often normal.

Froglette16 · 16/07/2018 14:51

They checked all the obvious things like placenta etc - all ok. Then said your baby’s having playtime! Because he was moving around so much! Good luck! I hope it’s the same for you and just a false alarm. 😀👍❤️

kirinm · 16/07/2018 14:53

I bled from 5 weeks up until 17 weeks. At 16 weeks pregnant I was admitted into hospital following a 2 pint loss. I'm now 33 weeks and everything appears to be okay. They never found the cause of the bleeding. Fingers crossed this is the only bleeding you'll experience. I never truly believed that people bled without any consequence in pregnancy - I had 4 miscarriages before this pregnancy and bleeding always meant a miscarriage - but not this time. And I'm not talking about spotting, my bleeding has always been heavy albeit short lived.

mazz9305 · 16/07/2018 17:06

I bled at 14 weeks - stsrted off brown discharge, turned to fresh blood and really heavy. Baby was absolutely fine and couldn't find a reason for the bleed, it carried on for about 2 weeks but seems to have stopped now and the baby is completely fine so try not to worry! Apparently it is quite common
