What can I expect to see on a scan at seven weeks?

Hi everyone!

My first pregnancy sadly ended in a missed miscarriage back in April. I was supposed to be 12 weeks but a scan revealed the pregnancy hadn't developed past six weeks. I had to have a D&C and it was a horrific experience both mentally and physically.

Two weeks ago (June 26th) I discovered I was pregnant again. I'm delighted but also terrified of another loss. I'm currently almost six weeks.

In order to assuage some of my anxiety I've booked an early scan for the 24th of July. I should be 7 weeks and 1 day according to my last period, though I know dates can vary.

I've never had a scan this early before, so....

People who have been pregnant/have had early scans.... what can I expect to see on an ultrasound at seven weeks? Will I be able to see bean's heartbeat? I'm terrified it'll end up like the last one and all I'll see is an empty sac... 😞

At 7 weeks you should see the heartbeat yes, but a few days earlier you might not, so if you’re not sure on your dates you may be better waiting until 8 weeks.

I was around 7-8 weeks in the picture. The heartbeat was basically the size of baby's whole body. It was amazing.

Absolutely bugger all apart from a tiny little beating heart! Baby looks like a prawn 😂

I had an internal scan following bleeding at 7 weeks- they tried scanning through my tummy but baby was too little at that point. A week later after more bleeding you could see baby through tummy, but still couldn't really tell it was a baby!

Despite all the bleeding DD was fine! Scary experience, but reassuring to know everything was intact and progressing as expected

@welshweasel, I'm fairly sure of when I ovulated (had a positive ovulation test the day before, and I know my body pretty well). Obviously I don't know for absolute certainty though.

I know someone who had a scan at this stage and described it as a peanut.

I had a scan at 6+1 and could c the baby and a good heartbeat, good luck x

I had the same scenario and the Dr arranged an early scan to allay my anxiety - could not really make out much but the sonographer was very reassuring, which was what I needed p.

I had a scan at just under six weeks (I’d had a bleed) and just saw a little round circle, no heart beat, went back two weeks later and saw a little round circle which had a grain of rice in it which flickered in the middle. I was 7+5.

I saw a tiny heartbeat. It was incredible

Somewhere between that haha....heart beat was seen at both scans xx

This my scan from 7w2. We saw the heart beating away too and it was measured at 151bpm. It's lovely to see, hope all goes well for you.

I had a scan at 8 weeks. Baby looked like a peanut with little stick arms an legs. There was the heartbeat as well.

This is dd’s scan at 7+4 on a very full bladder, second is this pregnancy at 7+1 on a completely empty bladder. (I’d circled it and wrote baby as I was in utter disbelief after a mc in april)

Mine at 6+4, heartbeat was visible too :) you should be able to see plenty at 7 weeks

6w 6d and strong heartbeat! I too had a mmc and having this easily scan has given Me peace at mind. Xx
